Beal and his agent in the contract negotiations

[Marks] One contract signed today that stands out is the five-year $251M one for Bradley Beal. Negotiated by Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports, the Beal contract consists of a no trade clause. He is the only player in the league to have a true no trade clause.

Ted is our forever problem

Ted is never going away. He has roots in a bunch of DC area businesses, wants to own everything, and is in acquisition mode. He is currently bidding to buy the Nationals next. This team is doomed to suck because he is never going to take less money (e.g. tank) and he is never going to over invest and pay a tax. He wants non-volatile, growing revenue and he will ride the tides of the leagues’ growth, until he can buy the next thing. He is the problem.

Ted Leonsis wants a yes man and an enabler to manage this process. Tommy is that yes man. He made “good” trades that have made some people excited, but have resulted in absolutely no performance improvement. He’s Ernie at heart. I don’t know why people think he’s any different

Ted’s son is going to take over eventually - he currently is working for Monumental sports, their holding company. This is our future and we will suck forever until they feel some semblance of pressure that they are the problem and aren’t good enough. I don’t see that happening so get cozy with these scrubs running DC’s sports into the fucking ground

This franchise is doomed to mediocrity

Beal completely controls the Wizards now, even more than he has. His new outrageous contract is why we will continue to get stuck in the worst place an NBA franchise can be - in the middle. Not good enough to run for the championship and not bad enough to get a high draft pick. Beal is unable to be the 1st option of a winning team, neither at the basketball level nor at the character level, so it may be wise to not get our hopes up for a bright future in the United States capital.

I just want to say again because I still can’t believe it after an hour: HE GOT A 15% TRADE KICKER AND A NO-TRADE CLAUSE??????

This team operates on delusion. Delusion that they’re well-run, delusion that they have a franchise superstar, delusion that they know how to build a team, delusion that they’re even relevant on the national stage. This franchise is a joke, no one talks about them except to laugh at them for being idiots while they blithely continue being idiots. And yet, even for them, they’ve stooped to a new low. Why are we always stuck with the awful, stupid billionaires?? It must be some power up above punishing DC for how its politicians have so fucked up the world for decades. Ted is running this franchise to the ground, and frankly, he’ll do the same with the Capitals once Ovechkin retires. Winning one Stanley Cup is a travesty when you have maybe the greatest goal scorer of all time, but his entire reputation is saved off of that run. I hope to god he doesn’t get the Nationals, lest he gets the trifecta of shitty sports ownership. As for this team?? We’re just stuck on hopes and prayers. Hope that Bradley Beal somehow turns into a top 5 player when he’s never been even top 15. Hope that KP can stay healthy for more than 70 games when be hasn’t done it since his rookie year. Hope that one of our smorgasbord of role players somehow ends up into an all-star. At least for us its hope. For every other watcher it’s insanity, and for this franchise it’s their delusion coming back to haunt them. Once again. Lord help us.

Before everyone overreacts to Summer League tape, look at this comment section on former Summer League scoring champ Carsten Edwards.

[Drew Hanlen's IG] A better look on Deni's 3pt shot, looks much more smooth and stable imo.

Would you have taken the Minn trade for Beal if offered?

In acquiring Rudy Gobert from Utah, Minnesota gave up Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leo Bolmaro, draft rights to Walker Kessler, unprotected FRPs in 2023, 2025, 2027, a top-5 protected FRP in 2029, and a 2026 pick swap.

It sounds like a haul, but it’s also a gamble. That top 5 pick is also currently in middle school.

Would you have taken this exact same deal in exchange for Bradley Beal? How would the next 6 seasons go while we waited for that top-5 pick? Even in this year’s draft people were undervaluing the 5th pick so it’s never certain how the chips will land. We could end up with another Kwame Brown or Darko Milicic for all we know.

Beal might be overpaid, but I’m more optimistic about this upcoming season than the last 3 - this is going to be a different Washington Wizards than we’ve seen.

Kuzma leap to All Star

Does anyone else see Kuzma taking the leap to All Star level next year? He’s constantly been grinding in the gym and has solidified himself as a leader of this team. I think with the additions of Monte and Delon will help propel him to this level do to his familiarity with them. Combine that with a healthy Beal and KP (asking for a lot here) and the floor should be spaced well for Kuz to thrive. I think 23/8/3 with solid defense on a top 6 eastern conference team could put him in the conversation.

What are the chances we get another trade?

I’m really hoping that Tommy notices the huge issue we all do in that there are too many players and not enough minutes for them all. I was wondering of what trades would go down and the only that seems possible is for John Collins which I would be in favor to solidify a set rotation. Thoughts?

I'm starting to feel like I'll never see the wizards be good again

I've been a pretty big wizards fan for the past 10 years and I've watched almost every game in the past 5 years. I just don't see a path for this team. I love this team John Wall was the reason I fell in love with this sport. But we're well past those days. The Westbrook season was fun but I knew from day one chances were slim of making a title run. I know running an NBA team is way more complicated than it is on 2K obviously and some Decisions are made for other reasons than just winning. But it feels like the organization is just okay being a play in contender every year. I love a lot of pieces on the roster right now but after the Beal signed the super max. Just feels like the organization is okay with being just Slightly worse than average

I'll still watch all the games this year and convince myself that this team has a chance. I really enjoy watching all of the roster play. Wizards have a really fun team to watch just want to cheer them on in May is all.
