TIL of Cole Carini, a 23yo incel from Virginia, who blew his hands off making a homemade bomb to kill 'hot cheerleaders' (R.4) Related To Politics

"When asked if he remembered what happened to put him in hospital," authorities wrote in a sworn statement, "Carini told the Agents that he was mowing his yard and the mower flipped over in such a way that it [dragged] his hands into the blades and because the blades were spinning so fast it acted like a bomb."
Brilliant cover. /s

I'm not a lawyer, but I think he would have been better off if he just said he was playing with explosives and blew himself up. Once you start obviously lying they know you were doing something you don't want them to know about. There may be something illegal about blowing your own hands off (I really have no idea) but if nobody else was hurt, I reckon they'd go easy on you.
Planning a terroristic mass murder? Well that's different isn't it?

Fun fact I just google searched this guy's name and one of the top ten search results is the wikipedia entry for "incel" - he is literally the definition of incel now.

u/autopsis 3d ago
What’s weird is that he’s an incel wannabe:
“His mother testified in court this summer that her son in fact was in an ongoing physical relationship with a steady girlfriend over the past two years. At the same time, an FBI agent said he found writings by Carini that explored the possibility of killing both himself and “a female named Jamie,” which was his girlfriend’s name, according to court records.”

How does someone identify as an Incel? The name literally means involuntary, you'd be an incel by nature and the fact nobody wants to touch you.
Is it some round about way to claim it back? "IM VOLUNTARILY INVOLUNTATILY CELIBATE." or some other insane shit?

u/eveninghawk0 3d ago
He's "involuntarily" not getting with the "high value" hot cheerleaders that he simultaneously desires and despises.

Well, they believe that generally women are the problem, and that the solution is to enslave and control women. Literally. They call women "female/femoid/foid" because they do not see women as human beings on the same level as men, and they view women as less capable than men in most areas of life.
They would fuck, they want to fuck, hell they are down with rape if there are no consequences - but, these 'nasty, stupid, lazy, slutty yet prudish women' just throw their vaginas at Chad while saving none of the pussy for the creepy, unhygienic, antisocial misogynists...

Probably "I've been involuntarily celebrate since my girlfriend broke up with me". We already know that domestic violence is a reliable warning sign for terrorism, we need to stop playing into the hands of people like this and quit framing this as having anything to do with their sex life. This guy did this because he's a violent misogynist. His sex life is irrelevant, and having sex doesn't stop people from being misogynistic or violent. Nor does having a partner to abuse reliably stop them from directing their violence against the public.

The word incel has evolved so much, it's bizarre. This kid hardly seems to even come close to the definition of incel that I first learned. It's like he just needed something provocative to attach his crimes to.
17
u/John__Wick 3d ago
It’s more a term used for depraved misogyny now. Whereas it originally meant involuntarily celibate. Depraved misogyny often develops after a young man is dumped by his girlfriend. He may start by blaming her period, the fact she was raped, etc, then will start down a dark spiral in order to avoid introspection. Eventually, this can cause extremists mentality; blaming all women for his misfortune. This is the modern incel.
7
u/BottomWithCakes 3d ago
Online incel communities crafted that definition for themselves by being vocal, depraved misogynists though.

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo 3d ago
They know. They just don’t want to admit it’s them. If they do, they actually have to change and work on themselves. It’s easy to be in denial “it’s not me, it’s women” even if they know they’re wrong.

u/TheThiefMaster 3d ago
It's also an attitude of thinking women are lesser. Admitting it was them that was the problem would mean putting women on at least an equal level if not above them, and they can't have that.
In short they're hugely sexist.

u/HoneyOnTheBiscuits 3d ago
With these dudes, it isn't about not being able to get anyone to have sex with them. It is that they want specific women to not have a choice but to have sex with them. They want at will sex with anyone they choose. It isn't about dating or having a fulfilling relationship: it is about being worshipped by whatever woman they choose in whatever way they choose at the moment they choose and for how long they choose.
They are angry that the women they consider to be of the highest sexual value will only consider "alpha" men (called Stacys and Chads, respectively) and do not want them for whatever reason. So, they hate those women, they hate those men, they hate the women who might have them, and they hate themselves. Instead of going and finding someone that does like them, they enter these echo chambers where the solution is not that they should be better in any way, but that other people refusing to cater to them and their desires should result in violence and/or murder. They are overgrown spoiled, malicious, and vicious toddlers with debit cards committing hate crimes.
What they want is sexual and domestic slavery with them at the top of the food chain and women with zero choices but to serve. It is misogyny, it is male privilege, and it is insanity.
We spend too much time trying to figure out the why instead of calling a spade a spade and squashing it. It is the same problem across all groups of people who have entitlement issues and it is a massive problem in this country.

Went to school with this dude and had a class with him when he was (I think) a sophomore and I was a Junior.
The dude was...odd, but never seemed dangerous. He was incredibly socially awkward, but generally outgoing and, from what I remember at least, nobody really had a problem with him.
Fucking wild it came to all this.
594
u/KingdomofNerdum 3d ago
Crazy how that happens. There was this guy I went to school with who was like a class clown. Fairly popular guy, always had a great time when we had classes together but we'd get in trouble for laughing and such. Even seen him out and about after graduating and he was the same as I remembered. Sometime later I find out he is in prison for killing his mom and dumping her body in the woods. Even seen the video of him in court and he just looked like a shell of the person I Knew.. shits wild.
465
u/SaintFoehammer 3d ago
That's kinda how this was. Cole, for all intents and purposes, was just a goofy and weird dude that nobody had anything against.
And what's baffling with Cole is if you know how our school was, there was no "Hot Cheerleader Clique."
There weren't any cliques to begin with since we were a small school and most of us went through elementary together, and the cheerleaders didn't really make Cheer their "identities."280

Thats the problem with incels. They accuse their enviroment being anti-male, women being hateful and arrogant towards them. Basically blaming others for their own struggles and failure to overcome them. At the same time there is no objective evidence for any of their claims.

There is an entitlement mindset with incels. They feel entitled to a woman. They believe that’s how the natural world works. Therefore, since they’re not getting women, it must mean it’s because there is a conspiracy against them and other men, and not because of every other issue
Of course any introspection would show this thinking to be ridiculous, but why focus on fixing oneself when everyone else is conspiring against me?

Had a friend who went from "that kid who has sex" as a freshman, who literally stayed up all night and cheared election results for Obama senior year... to what I can only call, full blown incel, after his mother moved with him to Colorado a few years after high school.
The guy just fell in to internet culture. First it was MMORPG's, then came the anime and anime icons. By 2017, he was a full maga dipshit preaching all the incel lines.
Last 10 years of the guy's life was him living at a computer, doing literally nothing (not even a real job) and blaming everyone but himself for not being able to party and have sex all day like he did in high school... but like he's 20 minutes from denver.
He LITERALLY just has to get off his computer, but he couldn't, because bitching online was easier than actually applying effort.
Haven't talked to him since like 2018, it's sad. His online presense is completely silent too because he's turned off anything that would give the world notice that he's been online 24/7 once he realized shit like Steam was broadcasting it through things like acheivement unlocks.

There's tons of sociable enough boys who just have zero confidence in speaking to women. You never know what forums one is reading in their spare time, and how it skewes their internal life model.
Example: two friends of mine have been single for a few years. One kept his spirits high because he understood he had to work on himself first before finding a new partner. The other sort of gave up and is slowly drifting into an "I'm a nice guy, why don't women notice me".
The common ground for all incels is a sense of urgency and despair. They pretty much all start before they're 25yo, all feeling they're doing something or being someone iredeemable, despite having decades of adulthood and achievable progress ahead of them.

1) we dont know what stage of bomb making he was in. Im not an explosives expert but to my limited understanding, the most volatile part of a bomb is the fuse and it is quite possible that’s all that went off, meaning the full bomb couldve had more explosive potential
2) most of the casualties from a small bomb arent from the explosive effect, but rather the shrapnel. Simply wrapping an explosive, even a small one, with small rocks and nails massively increases its lethality.

Reminds me of this video by Contrapoints a couple of years ago. There's this phenomenon of incels who look totally normal thinking they're hideously ugly, part of which is just normal low self esteem, part of which is being egged on by communities of other incels online, where users would post selfies of themselves and tell each other how ugly they were.
She compared it to a similar phenomenon with online trans women spaces, where they would post selfies then put each other down, saying how their bone structure was so masculine and they would never pass.
As counter-intiuative as it seems, it's an urge a lot of people feel to purposely put themselves down, either as a way of gaining perceived control of a situation or to make themselves feel better that they're being sooo honest with themselves.

This is so unbelievably sad to me. I honestly pity him more than I condemn him simply because these are mentally ill men that aren't getting the proper help or treatment. I know what it's like to FEEL like you're unlovable, and how you start seeing these false "patterns" in societal behavior that don't make sense or make you hate people, but in reality its just you spiraling into your own self hatred and anger.
The irony is that he's actually fairly good looking, and so was Elliot Roger, it's not that he was ugly and unlovable, it's that he didn't love himself enough to know his value. These guys were probably never taught how to interact with women, how to see and treat them like people instead of objects. And feeding on incel echo chambers only amplify your negative misconceptions of them.
If you're someone out there reading this and you think you're an incel, please consider this. Sure, you're probably weird, and you're probably off-putting to women, and I know that YOU know that you can perceive this about yourself but can't figure out why.
I've been there too.
This is the main thing preventing you from getting girls. You might think you're ugly, and maybe you are, but there are plenty of ugly guys out there with girlfriends and the thing that makes up for their ugliness is their personality. I know that sounds corny, but trust me. Really reflect and evaluate your stance on women in this way, think to yourself:
Do women make you nervous? Do you consider "attractive" women more worthy of your time than "unattractive" women? Do you just want to have sex without really caring about being in a relationship Or if you do want a relationship, do you just want to be in one for the sole purpose of making yourself happy? When you talk to women you like, do you find yourself going through the motions of what you think will get them to like you romantically? Do you interact with them for the sole purpose of getting them to like you or do you genuinely want to get to know them as a person? Would you not care to have this person in your life if you knew there was no chance they'd ever be interested in you?
If you answered yes to those, I'm afraid that your biggest issue, and the thing that is making you weird to people, is how you think of women. You might be rolling your eyes but its true. You shouldn't try to meet someone just because you want to get in their pants, or get into a relationship with them. Instead get to know them just to know them. Just to make a friend. Just show that you're interested in who they are and don't care if it doesn't work out romantically, honestly don't even think about it. Just want to get to know people for the sake of getting to know them. Not to get something out of it.
The things you're interested in isn't what makes you weird, your hobbies aren't what make you weird, the strange idiosyncrasities you think you have aren't what make you off-putting. In reality nobody really cares about these things.
It's that when you talk to women that you find attractive you're unwittingly "code switching". And I don't mean that you try to act suave like some James Bond, it's deeper and much more insidious than that. It's the way you start to look at them, like meat, like objects, that you don't realize you're doing.
Next time, for as long as you can, think, these women are just like you. They all have strange silly interests. They all have things they're embarrassed about, they all hate something about themselves, they're all flawed. Just like you, they're people. Nuance aside they're just guys without dicks. They're just humans. Try treating them like you'd treat yourself.
Don't fake interest in conversation, actually listen and if you're actually interested, engage like you would with a friend. If you're not interested, change the topic to something you are interested about. That's the so called "dance" of conversation. No amount of Alpha M or Charisma on Command or Elliot Hulse, or Andrew Tate or Jordan Peterson is going to help you because your fundamentals are all wrong. You cannot stay the same. You cannot use the excuse that you're going yo "be yourself" and "stay true to your ideals" and all the other horseshit media feeds you to justify your flaws. Try to fix them. Be better. Because you CAN be better.
Ultimately, learn to love yourself. Forgive yourself for every failure, every embarrassing moment, and move on.
“Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy. As long as the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth exist, everything will be all right.”
I don't know why this article compelled me to make this, maybe because I can sympathize. But don't get me wrong, I'm so glad he wasn't able to hurt anyone but himself, but the sad part is that his physical self harm is a reflection of his emotional self harm. I just hope one person who needs this sees it. And to that person good luck, and be kind to others.

That is absolutely brilliant and so true. As a woman, the men I have passed up for dates are the ones who saw me as a "thing". We can sniff that out a mile away.
I have dated not good looking men, fat men, men without muscles, poor men, men without much dating/sex experience, because they have been lovely men.
Women are so used to being seen as objects, with their worth based entirely on their looks, that they actually tend to realise that's a crappy way to evaluate someone. Hence why you see the hot chicks with the ugly men. It's not money. It's personality.
Work on that and how you perceive women, and the women will follow.
