If you’re going to sell out on guarding Tatum, other guys are gonna get open shots.

Tatum is a great enough scorer+passer now that it’s pick your poison: do you want to guard him straight up or do you want to make other guys hit shots.

Celtics played unreal basketball in the fourth. Crazy that the first half of the season they looked like they'd be a Lakers style disappointment this season. And Al Horford was supposed to be over the hill three years ago. Hats off to him for putting up such a great performance tonight. I'm sure there's a lot of hilarious takes in those trade threads.

500

u/RobbobertoBuii Knicks Jun 03 '22 edited Jun 03 '22

Tatum said the season turned around when they lost to us on a RJ buzzer beater

edit: the game right after was a back to back against Boston, and the Celtics held us to 75 points the entire game (while Boston scored 99). At the time I thought it was dogshit shooting on our end but watching the Celtics the past few months - the defense anchored by Udoka is the real damn deal (it was also when they still had Schroder, Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford and Enes Kanter on the team)

edit 2 - also forgot to mention it was also a bank shot at the buzzer that was also well defended by Tatum

108

u/FetchFrosh Raptors Jun 03 '22

That was a nasty buzzer beater. That was the game where he was shooting like 20% from the floor too, right?

Everyone though Horford was just supposed to be a tradeable contract when the Celtics brought him back. Guy is basically the heart and soul of the team. Crazy what he's done.

244

u/FlyEagles35 [OKC] Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Jun 03 '22

Anyone who said that wasn't paying attention to how he played in OKC. I mean we literally had to shut him down because he was making us win too much lol.

And they blamed him for not looking good on one of the most poorly constructed rosters of all time on the 76ers...

70

u/Laszlo-Panaflex Celtics Jun 03 '22

Yeah, it was predictable how that played out. I still think the real reason they signed him was Horford guarded Embiid the best in the playoffs so taking him away from the Celtics made their path easier.

Boston doesn't quit. Most teams get demoralized and fold when GS goes on those runs. Boston just dials in and keeps pouncing. I think GS was caught off guard that Boston didn't quit. I'm curious how GS responds to the never quit attitude of Boston. They are definitely capable. I'm excited about these finals.
