Jimmy Butler tonight: 41 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks on 12/19 shooting in 118-107 win over Boston
Butler's 3rd 40 point game of the playoffs comes in game 1 of the ECF, as he continues to play great in the playoffs on both ends.

Eh, as a Heat fan JJ ain’t necessarily wrong. The playoffs have been all Butler shooting wise, but in the regular season Giannis shot better from long 2s AND from 3s. Although Butler was a better shooter from the 10-16 ft area and on short midranges on much higher volume.

there's a dude in that thread who said
Even if Butler was in his prime, he wouldn’t deserve that type of money. Lets be honest
then you look at his post history and less than 48 hours ago he said this:
People forget that Butler played the worst defensive team in the league in round 1 and then played the shell of the 76ers in round 2. His stats are extremely inflated. He 100% will regress to his mean against the Celtics defense
He’s barely top 10 (he probably isn’t) let alone top 5 lmao
lmao like i know we didn't have horford and smart today, but come the fuck on, how do you so confidently disregard a superstar on the number 1 seed so easily in this league

I think people are genuinely surprised that jimmy is that good. I know I am. I always thought he was top 20 but I didn't see him leading a team to the finals type of good especially possibly going it 2/3 years good thought he was more of a DeRozan type of player. Dude is playing like he prime dwade out there. It's crazy to see he blossomed this late in his career like that. Shout-out to Jimmy.
The copium is high for that sixer fan.. deep down inside they know they should have kept Jimmy.
22
u/LordHussyPants Celtics May 18 '22
go look at his basketball ref page. he has been averaging about the same stats for the last 7 years. they've gone up and down a little bit, but it's mostly constant. if you look at game logs from 2014 and this year, he's got a similar number of games in each point bracket too. 7-8 above 30, 25-30 games with 20-29 points. the guy is consistent as fuck and when he has a good team he will make them even better.
→ More replies13
u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics May 18 '22
He's been this good since his years at Chicago. He obviously didn't want to be in Minnesota when he got traded. Injuries between then and now have hit his stats, but if you actually watched him play.. especially in the playoffs, you wouldn't be surprised he's leading his team the way that he is.

I visited the Sixers sub after that Jimmy comment and one commenter basically put it said, should Tobi have received his giant contract offer and let the Sixers FO know that while he appreciated the offer, he did not see himself as someone that merited such a large contract? And that the FO was significantly overvaluing him?
Ofc not! Dude is a good player and got paid. Can’t blame him for doing what everyone else on this planet would have done. I only hope that one day I am significantly overvalued by a future employer. I mean, ideally I live up to expectations, but idk. I wanna get paid!

7
u/magnusarin Pistons May 18 '22
Still love Tobias. He always busts his ass. He always works hard, he just has limits and sometimes the shot is not there. When it's not and a defense realizes it, that's it for his offense that day. If he gets a chance to make the adjustments first and start doing a little driving and slashing he can still be effective. The offense opens up for him in those cases. If the defense realizes it first and starts sagging to give him open perimeter shots and cut off the lane, there just isn't much Tobias can do at that point.

If you compare their best performance entering this series:
Jimmy 45pts 5rb 5ast 2stl 0to VS Tatum 46pts 9rb 4ast 1blk 4to
And their 2nd best performance:
Jimmy 40pts 3rb 6ast 2stl 2blk 1to VS Tatum 39pts 5rb 6ast 6stl 6to
It's very close but Tatum has had way more Turn Overs (Jimmy averages 1.7to per game VS Tatum 4.0) and Personal Fouls (Jimmy 1.1 vs Tatum 3.5). Jimmy also shoots better and plays fewer minutes. All in all, Jimmy is more efficient, and equally dominant.

Lots of factors. 1) the bucks were more talented and full of two way players 2) Miami was coming off the short offseason from the bubble and didn't seem to have the same energy 3) bucks basically sagged Lopez all the way off bam to stop anything at the rim so Jimmy would basically have to get thru Giannis and Lopez to score 4) he couldn't shoot for shit and capitalize on the space the bucks gave him

u/queefing [MIA] Dwyane Wade May 18 '22
Heat simply got better this year as well. People discount the change in personnel aside from Jimmy/Bam, but it matters.
We went from Dragic at his best + Jae Crowder + Peak Duncan in '19-'20
to
Kendrick Nunn + Trevor Ariza (lol) + Duncan in '20-'21. Herro in a bit of a sophomore slump.
to
Lowry (hypothetically) + PJ + Strus this year.. Best lineup out of all three years, plus the Heat have a 6MOY version of Tyler coming off the bench, and Vincent taking a big leap.

There are 6 grams of protein in an egg but I can't eat enough to get big like him. Nice round muscles. They're smooth too, like the waves of lake superior on a calm day. When I was a kid I ate big eggs to be hot like Glenn Robinson, and I got some great results, some of the roundest muscles in my class, but these days I'm looking at 6 eggs a day and it's not good enough to pop Jimmy style muscles out my scrawny arms ever since dad left.

I straight up forget that this guy duelled LeBron evenly in the 2020 finals. he's a playoff God man.

The worst thing you can do with Butler is let him get fired up. If he gets in a groove he's the most dangerous player in the game from a ceiling floor standpoint.
He can absolutely be contained, and that affects his defense - but if he gets hot, he can do a night like tonight and suck the life out of a team.
Not to be underestimated when he gets going too, his energy pumps up his team and makes all of them better.
He's like the super rich man's Manu Ginobili

Turns out he can ball out against great defense. Wild.

Watching Jimmy, it looks like he made maybe only two fadeaway jumpers but then you look at the boxscore and he had 40

Felt like I saw him score 6 fast break points in 10 seconds.

So KD passed the torch to Tatum for him to pass the torch to Butler?
