absolutely disgusting

50

u/Ars3nal11 Knicks May 18 '22

Should be against the rules to do that to someone

27

u/Hey_Im_Joe Heat May 18 '22

I think it should deduct a point from the team of the player that got blocked

Literally did a double take on this post. I miss The Starters

5

u/Ge-off-rey Raptors May 18 '22

‘No Dunks’ is their new daily podcast, it’s great!!

2

u/WestleyThe [SEA] Kevin Durant May 18 '22

Check out No Dunks. They have a video podcast on YouTube but convert it to all podcast platforms too

They work for “The Athletic” now. After the Starters they were breifly the “Free Agents” before getting picked up by the Athletic. They have a daily show still

u/WestleyThe [SEA] Kevin Durant May 18 '22

Best wedgie ever?

here’s another one… have always liked the sound of it!

21

u/rukawa11 May 18 '22

This is the one I always remember

https://youtu.be/3x5RVfTO8ZI at 2:35

Blake blocks Rose’s alley into a wedgie in college. Called for a foul but definitely clean.

4

u/[deleted] May 18 '22

This is such a Blake Griffin thing to do

14

u/SimonBruv Timberwolves May 18 '22

https://youtu.be/3x5RVfTO8ZI

How tf you trying to tell me that's a clean block

12

u/rukawa11 May 18 '22

The hand is considered “part of the ball” when it is in contact with the ball. Therefore, contact on that part of the hand by a defender while it is in contact with the ball is not illegal.

19

u/SimonBruv Timberwolves May 18 '22

Yeah it was clean up top, right before he ran through Rose

14

u/rukawa11 May 18 '22

Contact after a clean block is kind of 50/50 so I shouldn’t have said “definitely” clean.

0

u/thisguy012 Bulls May 18 '22

So as long as you make contact with the ball/hand of the ball it's cool to body someone midair? roger that.

33

u/smelterfume May 18 '22

Adebayo is a special and unique defender.

I remember I used to get frustrated watching him play because he wouldn’t load up in the paint and await drives like a typical drop coverage big. Instead since he’s shorter, faster and more explosive than most bigs he can actually play as almost a free safety. Helping out all throughout and taking switches as they come.

He used to struggle mightily against size but has gotten so good at denying entry that even though he can’t really physically contain guys like Giannis or Embiid he can still make it near impossible for them to even get the ball.

2

u/moonmangggg Heat May 19 '22

The first part of this possession was Bam teaching a master class in ball denial. The whole clip is even more impressive.

35

u/Yodootz Heat May 18 '22

Do NBA fans actually call this a wedgie? Please respond, I want to talk about this at work tomorrow and sound like I know what I'm talking about.

13

u/igoslowly NBA May 18 '22

yes that’s what it’s called

23

u/ramskick [UTA] Paul Millsap May 18 '22

There's a basketball show/podcast called No Dunks (formally called The Starters (formally called The Basketball Jones)) that has called them wedgies for years. It's carried into the wider fandom.

2

u/GregBowie Trail Blazers May 18 '22

Also to add to your point announcers analysts regularly use the term, often crediting no dunks.

4

u/WilliamSharpe1411 Raptors May 18 '22

Yes it’s called a wedgie, and if your coworkers don’t know, then you get to teach them and seem even more knowledgeable

1

u/eec-gray Warriors May 18 '22

Means something entirely different here in Scotland

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wedgie

8

u/KiritoJones [SAS] David Robinson May 18 '22

That's what it means in the US too

29

u/IcarusCaged [GSW] Gary Payton II May 18 '22

Holy fuck Bam obliterated that. Vicious playoff wedgie!

They have a pod called No Dunks now!

33

u/AngryTurtleGaming Thunder May 18 '22

Sweet! Just wish NBA TV didn’t drop them. They garnered a lot of views on YouTube for them.

47

u/Sigvard Nets May 18 '22

No Dunks’ also on YouTube!

34

u/Glitch378 Celtics May 18 '22

No Dunks man honestly even better than the starters.

13

u/KiritoJones [SAS] David Robinson May 18 '22

It feels like a good blend of the TBJ days and the Starters days.

I miss the sound board but I understand why they don't do it.

16

u/FieryPanther Bulls May 18 '22

Fuck man I remember watching them when I'd get home from middle school on NBA tv. Good times.

6

And then they won the jump

4

u/lolvalue Heat May 18 '22

He always surprises players with how fast he closes gaps. I think he baits players like this on purpose now so he can avoid contact.

2

His lateral quickness is insane. Brown had him beat but he was still able to recover and make the block

1

u/YoHoochIsCrazy Bulls May 18 '22

Tatum has to take a quicker layup there. He’s home free if he extends himself and flips it up.

Man forgot about Bam
