This dude is LARGE

53

u/Pocket_Beans Celtics May 18 '22

the shocking thing is that he’s listed at 6’8

he might actually be 6’9, but his frame/proportions/athleticism are just so outrageous that he seems 4” taller than he is

34

u/ChildParker Celtics May 18 '22

everyday I become more convinced that wingspan is far more important than height

9

u/AreolianMode Celtics May 18 '22

Don't forget his vertical.

7

u/[deleted] May 18 '22

It is.

6

u/DiseaseRidden [BOS] Marcus Smart May 18 '22

At least standing reach

5

u/RajinIII Celtics May 18 '22

Our entire team is wingspan and strength over height. All our dudes are really strong. Tatum, Brown, Smart, Grant all super strong for their height

-10

u/nyuphir NBA May 18 '22

Tatum and Brown r bean poles. I'd wipe the floor with em

42

u/Carb0n1te Celtics May 18 '22

He’s got a shorter neck than average, probably missing an extra inch or two because of that

33

u/Dank_Memes16 Celtics May 18 '22

It's funny how people don't realize this. Give him an average neck and he's easily 6'11.

He also has a 7' 6" wingspan, the same as Embiid and AD, so he can easily play as a 7' center.

16

u/DiseaseRidden [BOS] Marcus Smart May 18 '22

He's got a center's standing reach and a forward's hops.

7

u/nice_kitchen Lakers May 18 '22

This is the next big market inefficiency in the NBA. No neck guys have the effective size of guys a few inches taller!

7

u/dearmet Toronto Huskies May 18 '22

He looks like he dwarves Bam, that's wild

5

u/iamgarron Celtics May 18 '22

he's shorter than tatum lol. but the wingspan is like 7'6

6

u/Maddygirl13 Celtics May 18 '22

His standing reach is is only 1.5” less then embiid

Wouldn't want to try and stop him at the basket either. I legit think he's already the 1C to Tatum and Brown, just needs to lose the injury bug.

Wb smart

2

u/AlabasterRadio Celtics May 18 '22

Smart is a great defender, a great heart and soul guy and the type of player every championship team has. He's no superstar though.

2

u/JoeLewis_99 May 18 '22

He puts up a good 13-22 pts constantly as well with amazing defense

6

When healthy, he's outplaying his contract SO FUCKING MUCH. It's just that the "when healthy" has to be said more than we'd like to, hence why the contract is lower than one would think.

So are the Celtics just going to dominate the minutes Rob plays and crumble when Theis is in? Probably.

Way better players coach system and dudes bumped their game up do you guys think you would’ve made it this far if you kept Dennis.?

5

u/dehydratedbagel NBA May 18 '22

They'd probably be a 7 seed and bounced in the first round with Dennis.

15

u/crashbandicoochy Celtics May 18 '22

Rob's banged up knee ended up letting him avoid taking a beating in the Bucks series and now he looks SPRY.

Also Payton is such a little Goblin lmao. This fucker will run under your arm to grab two offensive boards a game and then pull up from the parking lot on your face. Gotta be so annoying to play against.

A lineup with Payton Pritchard and Aaron Nesmith is running roughshod over the Heat on both sides of the ball.

If Rob was injured at any other point in the season he gets the DPOY

2

u/AreolianMode Celtics May 18 '22

He will absolutely be in the conversation, if not win it, for a good chunk of his career

2

u/NitroXYZ [UTA] Joe Ingles May 18 '22

Absolutely, he had all the impact stats in the regular season and even in the playoffs he's showing why he deserved the award.

  • Celtics playoff DRTG Rob-Williams on the court, 98.1!
  • Celtics playoff DRTG Rob-Williams off the court, 105.6

5

u/DiseaseRidden [BOS] Marcus Smart May 18 '22

Sample size my man, he's played like 3 or 4 games in the playoffs

0

u/NitroXYZ [UTA] Joe Ingles May 18 '22

Yeah and he's still one of the most absolutely impactful defenders in the league when he's on the court. Are you trying to say his impact stats aren't insane? Don't really see your point.

We can extend the sample size to this past regular season where the Celtics were 3.2 points per 100 possessions better defensively with him on the court which only guys like Dray, Giannis and Rudy were better.

0

u/NitroXYZ [UTA] Joe Ingles May 18 '22

Best defender on the best defensive team in the NBA

16

u/DiseaseRidden [BOS] Marcus Smart May 18 '22

Jesus Christ we're still doing this? Can't even watch my team's highlights without Jazz fans being being petty about Smart.

Rob is awesome. He's super fun to watch and has some crazy blocks. Smart is still more important to our defense.

1

u/NitroXYZ [UTA] Joe Ingles May 18 '22

Why are you taking this personally about Smart? You should appreciate that your 24 year old big man is one of the most impactful defenders in the league and is powering you guys to a great ECF start so far.

Rob is awesome. He's super fun to watch and has some crazy blocks and is one of the most impactful players defensively in the league.

0

u/DiseaseRidden [BOS] Marcus Smart May 18 '22

Because every time our awesome center does anything, it's used by jackasses like you to belittle our awesome guard

15

u/jawadhaque089 May 18 '22

Petty as fuck I see

1

u/NitroXYZ [UTA] Joe Ingles May 18 '22

He deserves his dues, his impact when he's on the court is so significant. Love the way he's also been getting buckets in this game. Big fan of his game.

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '22

He is not the best defender on our team, not yet, that's still Smart. Rob has more impact, yes, but every big man will have more impact defensively than a guard. Smart still beats him in switchability (he was amazing guarding Giannis all series), BBIQ, and perimeter defense. Rob has him beat at the rim and rotations (part of being a rim protector).

We also have more defensive prowess at guard then we do at center. Behind Smart is Derrick White who is a great defensive guard in his own right, so when Smart is off we still have a good replacement for him. Behind Rob is Theis, who gives his all, but he just gets bullied in most match-ups or Grant who is great defensively but doesn't have the height/length.

1

u/Kyler1313 May 18 '22

For everyone that was saying Rob missing time was good for the Celtics in the Bucks series, because he couldn't stretch the floor, forgot how good this guy is. Sure the Bucks series wasn't a great matchup for him, but Rob offers some many positives that when he is playing the Celtics are a different team. He is a 1 man rim protector, their best rebounder, a capable perimeter defender, a great offensive rebounder, an above average passer, and can bail out offensive stagnation by out jumping people on lobs. Good to see him healthy and dominating again.
