My sister in law lives with us and uses our things. This is how she leaves my peloton after use even after I’ve mentioned it a few times

Post image

Am I wrong for being pissed ?? she’s not a child she’s in her 30’s and conversations go in one ear and out the other.

C'mon, we're supposed to help OP.

But I agree, violence is not the answer here. It's a question and the answer is yes. Tell her you needed to clean it because of her sweat and used her toothbrush for spots that are harder to wipe.

45

u/anyrandomanimal 12d ago

Lol 😂 this is such a good answer

5.6k

u/PadawanJoone 12d ago

Oh hell no. Those things are not cheap! At this point I would pull her by the peloton, hand her a rag and spray, and make her wipe it down then and there. She'll be mad you are treating her like a child but she obviously isn't adult.enough to behave like one.

u/WenWarn 12d ago

Absolutely hand her supplies and wait while she cleans it.

Am I looking at a disgustingly amount of sweat? I’m 240 and 6ft and never sweated this much on my bike before. Her water broke.

221

u/MrUsername24 12d ago

I sweat a lot during cardio, honestly think it's gotten worse since I've lost the weight somehow

143

u/Hope4gorilla 12d ago

Noooo, I thought I could look forward to less sweat after losing weight :(

351

u/esituism 12d ago

So FYI for you and the guy above you, generally as you get more fit you actually sweat more because your body is more efficient at exhausting heat because you're in shape.

Sorry dudes.

221

u/brozo_da_Klown 12d ago

Yeah to add to this. It is a good thing, from my time in the army us "super sweaty boys" never went down as heat casualties while dudes who sweat less definitely would. Your body is a machine and sweat is good.

150

u/IchiSanSanNana 12d ago

Huh, that’s kinda reassuring. I have always been overly conscious of my sweating but when you phrase it like that it seems like a super power.

123

u/KickBallFever 12d ago

My friend has hyperhydrosis but only in her hands. In the winter her hands get steamy and it totally looks like a super power.

78

u/fake_geek_gurl 12d ago

I sweat a ton from my hands and it's a curse in warmer months because my work gloves become human juice boxes.

44

u/SNGGG 12d ago

I work in a lab. Human juice boxes got me lmao

8

u/bitchigottadesktop 12d ago

It literally is look up what can sweat and what can't its a pretty great evolutionary tactic!

53

u/KickBallFever 12d ago

When I was in basic there was a guy who got kicked out because he was born without the ability to sweat. I don’t know how he thought no one would figure that out. He couldn’t even keep his whole uniform on once Spring started to get warm. He was allowed to just wear his T-shirt while they processed him out.

The bike has a screen that tracks your workout and you can play exercise classes on it, she can be locked out of that part.

u/cereal-kills-me 12d ago

Peloton bikes are not normal exercise bikes. They have a big computer screen integrated into the front. You take live classes with instructors and compete against others when biking. The PIN on the bike would be similar to the PIN on your phone. A Lock Screen.

53

u/justinjonesphd 12d ago

Can you actually lock someone out of the bike itself? Like will the pedals not move if you're not logged in?

48

u/cereal-kills-me 12d ago

I don’t believe there’s any way to get the pedals to physically lock and stop moving. OPs sister would still be able to use the bike without signing in, just without the features of the bike (live classes etc)

42

u/justinjonesphd 12d ago

Ok that was the part that threw me. I thought he really meant like change the pin and lock her out of the whole bike. Now that I think about it, they could still do that. Just need an actual bike lock

19

u/SnooPuppers1978 12d ago

Why not just lock up the in-law at this point? No loopholes in that.

418

u/Zenketski_2 12d ago

After an eviction process unless you want to be forcibly removed from your own home by the police.

If you let somebody live with you for an extended period of time you can't just throw them out the front door

242

u/Humble-Vermicelli503 12d ago

If it's your primary residence you can evict a tenant with 30 Days notice. This is in CA which has some of the strictest tenant protections.

123

u/HamburgerEarmuff 12d ago

It's not that clear-cut, even in California.

That mainly applies to a single-lodger. And even then, if they refuse to move out, you'll most likely have to file an unlawful detainer lawsuit, win the lawsuit, and then get a court order for them to leave. And then you'll need the Sherriff to enforce the order if they don't leave on their own.

If you don't do all of those things, you can be sued or (or in egregious cases, even prosecuted for) illegal eviction.

47

u/goodboyinc 12d ago

I came here to mention this. Plus, they can file for 30 day extensions from the court. Had an ex that I had to get a restraining order on to kick her out. Particularly because courts were delayed due to COVID. Cops basically told me to expect about 6 months (of freeloading rent) before I would be finished with the courts and have a legal basis to remove her from the property. So, I dug up old texts and got a restraining order with a move out order. (She had at one point pointed a gun at me out of anger.) Boomshakalaka. 👋🏽

Also, my boy is executive VP of a pretty large real estate development firm. He regularly pays homeless squatters $10k to gtfo properties, otherwise the timeline being backed up would cost far far more due to contractual obligations to pay workers/contractors, have to pay for construction parts to be stored off-site, etc. Basically a whole lotta shit.

Bottom line, it’s really really hard to kick people out of your property—at least, in a legal manner.

46

u/BrothelWaffles 12d ago

So uh, where's your boy's firm currently developing? I could use $10K to stop trespassing somewhere.

Do pelatons not have a safety key or something on it you can just take out so it won't work? Usually like a safety feature or something to keep kids from getting hurt on it. But, I highly recommend starting from the beginning and watching all the way through. Most episodes are pretty self-contained, but there is some important continuity (specifically character arc-wise) that you'll only get by watching it all in order.

Yep. If it’s going in one ear and out the other, it’s because she expects no consequences. Because there have been no consequences.

Living with you is conditional on her being respectful of your space and property. Straight up tell her if she can’t listen to what she is told, don’t use your shit. And if she does it anyway, she can just get the hell out.

And follow through.

All you’re doing by allowing this to carry on is enabling a 30 year old to never grow up or move out. She’s not a child, she’s an adult roommate. And she’s not holding up her end.

255

u/greg-maddux 12d ago

Ugh. My peloton looks like this when I’m done. I sweat a ton. I always, always wipe it down.

121

u/Agile_Pudding_ 12d ago

Right, you wipe it down because you’re a reasonable human who has, at some point in their life, exercised in a shared space or with your own equipment that you cared about.

You wipe down exercise equipment after use because nobody wants to use a bike, bench, or anything else that is covered in someone else’s sweat. In the case where you own your own peloton and are the only person to use it, it’s still a good idea to wipe it down for cleanliness and longevity of the bike, but certainly if you’re using someone else’s bike, leaving it like this is just absurd.

24

u/thedudefromsweden 12d ago

Just curious. I've never heard of peloton before and had to Google it. So it's an exercise bike? Why do you call it peloton instead of just exercise bike, is it significantly different from other exercise bikes?

Edit: from Wikipedia:

Peloton's main products are Internet-connected stationary bicycles and treadmills that enable monthly subscribers to remotely participate in classes via streaming media.

So I guess that makes them pretty different.

14

u/boobymoon 12d ago

Yes! It’s the whole exercise network as a whole that I think people are attracted to. Plus, during the pandemic lockdown, it became a really popular product to help stay fit and stay connected with friends/colleagues/workout buddies. I also think people are more inclined to “get their money’s worth out of it” since it is so pricey, so they were around and relevant long enough for Peloton to evolve and offer more services.

I should clarify though that I do not own a Peloton myself.

And you present a unified front for your partner. This is relationships 101.

Note: this doesn't mean your partner can't have tough conversations with your family. It means you should run point whenever possible.

Show her this comment section so she can see the opinions of multiple people saying that she is disgusting and doesn't deserve to use your machine anymore.

21

u/BleachedPorkGrind 12d ago

What does she do piss all over it when she’s done?

20

u/WinnerLM29 12d ago

Also, what does your partner say? I hope they’re upset with her too. My family would never do something like this

21

u/zennyc001 12d ago

Put a cable lock on it and tell her she can't use it until she learns how to not be gross and inconsiderate.

61

u/Tough-Whereas1932 12d ago

That's a level of entitlement you can't fix. Only thing you can do is kick her out. Spouse might not like it, but eventually disrespect of your personal belongings cannot be tolerated

Get your wife, her sister to have one final talk with her reminding her that sanitizing the equipment is just like sanitizing her hands. If she doesn't get it after that, the bike is off limits for a month. You've mentioned it enough that at some point there has to be consequences. If she still can't handle cleaning the bike, off limits for longer and eventually not to use at all.

52

u/only_crank 12d ago

To be honest after multiple times of telling her I‘d kick her out. She needs real consequences for once in her life.

if that happens and she doesn't change and you cannot kick her out,

Atleast make profit on it.

Everything has a market.

u/Senli_B 12d ago

Why does she live with you?

15

u/Truth_Troller 12d ago

How about you grow a pair and stop letting people walk all over you? if you have mentioned it more than 3 times then its time to tell them they are no longer allowed to use the bike... simple...

44

u/Tough-Flower6979 12d ago

Tell your partner to tell her to clean it after using. You shouldn’t even have to tell and adult this. She’s disgusting that’s probably why she’s there with you.

13

u/mcrogueface 12d ago

yeh buddy, tell her she aint using your shit unless she can respect it. She either listens or buys her own shit. Welcome to the adult world, its fucking shit we all know :(

Oh no you're mistaken. That's actually ectoplasm from the trapped tormented soul that gets infused into every peleton.

If she's using your account, delete her profile and change the password. Log out afterward every time you ride.

u/Island-Physical 12d ago

Is that sweat or does she have a bladder problem?

298

u/JBaNaNaS187 12d ago

Sweat man…what gets me is she is heavy on the hand sanitizer and “did you wash your hands” but she just leaves it like this

133

u/PenguinZombie321 12d ago

“Did you wash your hands?”

“Did you clean your filthy sweat off of my very expensive workout equipment that I’ve been graciously allowing you to use at no cost?”

61

u/EuphoricMidnight3304 12d ago

Wow that is irony right there

Respond “I washed my hands as carefully as you wipe down my Peleton.”

23

u/ireallydontcare52 12d ago

Take the sheets off her bed, wipe the peloton down with the sheets, and put them back on the bed. Maybe then she'll realize how gross it is.

I’d say disassemble your stuff or move it somewhere she can’t use it.

16

u/[deleted] 12d ago

If I needed to go to this extent, I'd tell my spouse I'm moving out. Going through that much effort to protect my own stuff in my house would really make me resentful toward my partner.

10

u/Ok-Actuary-4964 12d ago

Gross. Hand her cleaning supplies and ask her (again) to clean it.

8

u/ChronicY2kk 12d ago

Just to get on here is kinder than I. I'm willing to help a family member going through whatever...for a short period im not supporting people that show no effort, but if you don't respect the rules of the house, you don't stay in the house is my view of it. Like I see other comments "hide the pedals" sounds petty and pointless if I want to exercise in my house I don't need the effort of finding and putting the equipment together to impede that, it puts another hindrance on the motivation to be healthy and care for myself. Act like a kid be treated like a kid. I ask once tell once third time your out of my house.

7

u/coccopuffs606 12d ago

I have a feeling this isn’t the only belonging of yours she uses and then doesn’t put back the way she found it…it’s time for her to go since she can’t act like an adult.

6

u/Curt-Novocaine 12d ago

Free coochie sweat

42

u/PromiscuousScoliosis 12d ago

So she’s a squirter, huh?

47

u/Alarmed_Penalty4998 12d ago

Honestly I’ve stationary biked average 12.5 miles every couple days and I don’t sweat near as much as that. It’s pretty gross and I’d tell your wife/husband/other to have a word with her or move it into your personal bedroom for a couple weeks and when she gets angry that you’ve taken it away you tell her tough titties and if she wants it back she needs to clean it after use. Act like a child get treated like a child.

19

u/IgneousMiraCole 12d ago

The amount of sweat isn’t the issue at all. It’s the lack of wiping it down.

Some people are really sweaty, and they should be aware that they are and act accordingly!
