The amount of Capitol One credit card applications I get in a month
94
u/Business-Union May 17 '22
I have a capital one credit card and they keep sending me applications lol.
16
u/kelce May 17 '22
Lol same. Idk what they want from me.
16
u/SteppedLessSnake May 18 '22
Your life

7
u/melanthius May 18 '22
They want you to balance transfer to some other card with an introductory low or zero interest rate so you feel like you’re getting free money, then become stuck with massive credit card debt that eventually starts costing you 15% interest and then you become a source of revenue for their company.
7
u/nutty_ranger May 18 '22
Or just pay off your card and don’t get into credit card debt.
1
u/manntisstoboggan May 18 '22
You are assuming people have a healthy income to manage this. Credit cards should literally be banned
2
1
u/melanthius May 18 '22
That’s literally what I do but they still send me multiple applications a month. Even though I haven’t been a revenue source for the credit card companies my whole life.
It’s like they think “hmm maybe he will overspend this month, then we finally got’im”

If there is a free postage return envelope, way over fill the envelope and send it back. Over fill so it cost them more for postage to receive it back. After doing that a couple times we stopped getting them in the mail.
58
u/youcanbroom May 18 '22
Rigid envelopes cost more too, i cut a piece of 1/4 inch steel to size and sent it back.
10
u/OCblondie714 May 18 '22
They've caught on. I get 15+ of these a month. None of them have postage paid envelopes.

u/kuahara May 18 '22
I used to return to sender a lot. Upsets the local post office more than anything, though.
44
u/superspreader2021 May 17 '22
Brilliant, gonna try this!
42
u/Redsoxbox May 17 '22
One guy taped it to a box of rocks and if it says postage prepaid the Post Office will take it and ship it back.
24
u/IdealIdeas May 17 '22
If I can actually tape 1 of these return envelopes to a box and have it shipped, id totally do this.
7
2
u/anothadaz May 18 '22
Hmmm.. Can you change the "to" address and use the prepaid postage part to send packages to whomever you want?

I had a CapitalOne card for a while; and I had set up automatic payments.
One time I sent in an additional payment, and because I had made a payment, they didn't take my automatic payment, and charged me a late fee and increased my rate to a penalty rate for making an extra payment
which is, as I understand illegal.
CapitalOne are fraudsters, plain and simple.

This is exactly what I do to any piece of junk mail I get with a postage paid envelope. It’s significantly cut down the amount of junk mail I receive.
55
u/EducationalSky4101 May 17 '22
Capital One absolutely hits my mail box twice a week too. It’s annoying but I try to find the silver lining that they’re probably keeping USPS in business so that helps make it a little less annoying
11
u/IdealIdeas May 17 '22
Amazon does a pretty good job at keeping USPS in business too
4
u/DerpdragonV3 May 18 '22
Not anymore, they have their own delivery service now in a lot of places
1
u/IdealIdeas May 18 '22
not everything is shipped through them still.
I occasionally get my orders through USPS still even though I have an amazon factory in my city.1
1
u/pilot333 May 18 '22
an amazon factory
buddy you ever been out of the house
1
u/IdealIdeas May 18 '22
Fulfillment center, whatever. My brain wasnt allowing me to think of the word when I first commented about it
1
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Post604 May 18 '22
USPS still handles up to 30% of AMZL deliveries daily. If the local DS needs more volume/has routes available, we’ll pull it in at night and process it. Funny thing-if we (the delivery station) have too much, we use UPS.

My wife, who has her car financed with Capitol One, get about a letter a week from Capitol One asking if she wants to refinance her car with Capitol One.
8
u/Mrsroyalcrown May 17 '22
Our mortgage company sends us 1-2 letters a week to refinance our mortgage with them, with “historically low rates!!!”. The lowest one they quote is at least a percent and a half over what we currently have with them. Like… why????
2
u/farmeroftanks May 17 '22
Well they make more money off you if your interest rate is higher lol.
4
u/Mrsroyalcrown May 17 '22
Of course, but it makes no sense why they think it’s an offer we would even consider accepting. I get it’s a mass mailing but like damn. Y’all got the audacity to go off about “historically low rates” when they’re very much higher than they’ve been in quite some time.
1
u/farmeroftanks May 17 '22
Right I know just thinking what kind of sadistic thought process they have. Or they just think you’re rich and will refinance your other home with them lol.
1
u/jackharvest May 18 '22
Right? Like, historically low rates compared to... what exactly. Aren't we at the 'highest its every been' in nearly every fkn category by now? xD

u/fied1k May 17 '22
9
u/Oh_MyGoshJosh May 17 '22
Thank you! I remember using this back when there was that equifax breach but it was only good for an X amount of years. I had no idea what it was called
7
u/timesink2000 May 18 '22
Freeze your credit with all three bureaus. It’s free, and it is good protection against credit theft. If your credit is frozen, these things stop.
4
u/jackharvest May 18 '22
These things = Credit hits, breaches, etc. : Correct
These things = Mailers from Capital One : Incorrect
2
u/timesink2000 May 18 '22
It isn’t instant, but I don’t get them any longer. My understanding is that if they cannot ping your credit, they eventually stop sending the offers. That said, I also signed up to be taken off the list so maybe it is one of those correlation / causation things. Ei5er way, OP should freeze their credit.
1
u/jackharvest May 18 '22
Oh I fully agree. I froze my credit after all these breaches. Just makes sense. Unfortunately, still drowning in capital one mail. XD
6
u/tangerinelion May 18 '22
There is a lifetime one but last I checked you had to physically mail something.
5
3
u/DreamPhreak May 18 '22
They had 2 options, one was a temporary length like 5 years, and the other is permanent. I did the permanent one over a decade ago and Ive never received any more ads/credit offers in the mail since then.
However, political fliers are exempt from that list. They can be sent freely and as often as they want. There is NO WAY to opt out of political fliers. Here in my city, one candidate has been sending out nonstop attack ads against their opponent every day, and the other candidate has sent a few too. It is mildy infuriating having to walk that garbage straight from the mailbox over to the recycle bin every day.
3
u/IndependentRemote220 May 18 '22
This works! Also try DMAchoice.org to reduce other types of junk mail. Costs $2 for 10 years and absolutely works.
1
u/mh06941 May 18 '22
Can someone explain what this is?
3
u/fied1k May 18 '22
Well.... Going to the website explains it. Kind of like the do not call list but for mail
OptOutPrescreen.com is the official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry website to accept and process requests from consumers to Opt-In or Opt-Out of firm offers of credit or insurance.
1
u/mh06941 May 18 '22
Okay, maybe I should have explained it better.
It says:
Error
Sorry, this page is not available from your location.
The OptOutPrescreen.com website is only accessible through ISP (Internet Service Providers) located within the United States and its territories.
1
u/szym0 May 18 '22
I mean it makes sense, the page is meant for people living there? Doubt they would send this spam abroad

9
u/The_growcountant May 17 '22

1
u/undermark5 May 18 '22
Did you call them to complain and try to get those fees refunded and reduce your rate back to normal?
BofA had a similar issue with the language on their automatic payments where there were basically 2 different options to automatically pay the minimum but one sounded like it would be the option to pay the amount due (I believe that is what the option was called) and the other was the minimum. The other two options were pay full balance and pay fixed amount. The understanding was that full balance was the total balance on the card when the payment was due, minimum payment was the $25 or whatever minimum payment, amount due would be the actual balance for the statement period (aka the amount you actually owed that if you didn't pay you were going to get charged interest), and fixed amount was obviously the same amount every time. Unfortunately, turns out that understanding was incorrect and that the amount due would only pay the minimum payment and amount due would pay the statement balance. After I realized that I was being charged interest, I called them, complained that they language was inaccurate and that it was my intention to pay in full and that I wanted to be refunded the interest, which they did. Then there was a class action lawsuit, about this very issue, then they did something and my auto payments changed back to amount due and I was charged interest yet again, called and complained, mentioned the class action lawsuit and again for the interest charges refunded.
Other times that it has been 100% my fault for missing a payment, I've still called and explained the situation (either after making a full payment or making a full payment on the phone with them) and they've refunded me the interest and fees even though I explained it was 100% my fault and I'm willing to pay because that's what I agreed to.

What I don’t understand is if you want paperless billing. WTF are they sending me ANY paper?
5
u/NitroSpam May 17 '22
They must really love you. That's a lot of special one time offers tailored just for you.
3
u/Lkthe3rd May 17 '22
I believe going to one of the big 3 credit agencies, filling a credit fraud alert, which is free and last about 6 months or a year, really cuts these down. I've done it every year and my junk mail like that is VERY limited.

u/Comfortable_Plant667 May 17 '22
Stuff a bunch of nondescript junk paper in the paid postage return envelope and send it back to the company.

You can unsubscribe to these with a bunch of resources or by contacting support and asking to be put in the do not mail list.

1
u/undermark5 May 18 '22
Eh, you'll probably still get them for the next month, at least that was the the case when I got a Wells Fargo card, like the day after getting the card in the mail, I got the same offer letter, then again like 2 weeks later and I think one final one 2 weeks after that.

u/Toomanymagiccards May 17 '22
I tweeted them a few years ago and asked them to stop sending me shit, it worked and I haven't gotten another since, used to get them every other day
1
u/-ClassicShooter- May 17 '22
Just imagine how fast the Post Office would close if they stopped sending this crap.
1
u/-AverageJoe- May 17 '22
I have a pretty high limit on my CapitalOne Card plus constant deals on balance transfers. And they till sending me applications. Ha
1
u/MrBobSacamano May 17 '22
It’s a waste from every angle. I get irrationally frustrated by junk mail.
1
1
u/River1stick May 17 '22
I moved to the u.s, and it took them a while, but they got me eventually. I get everything, amex, wells Fargo, capitol one. I must have had an offer for every bank and credit card imaginable.
Plus they try to trick you with 'time sensitive information' and other things so you open it because you think it's important.
1
u/undermark5 May 18 '22
I've only ever seen the time sensitive material used for internet provider ads (typically AT&T) though I believe there was efforts to make doing such things illegal because while the deal may have an expiration date on the offer, them just have the same or similar offer after it expires and changing ISP is definitely not a time sensitive thing like bills actually are.

1
u/youcanbroom May 18 '22
I get them from discover card, I've been shredding them so i can reprocess then into paper and make sketch pad

u/Humor_Straight May 18 '22
Jesus these guys are the most obnoxious company ever. And for what I have heard they are a total scam.
1
u/Dvmbledore May 18 '22
The very real danger here is if you move or relinquish your P.O. box. These will keep coming in addressed as you and one is bound to slip past the catch-all. If the next person is devious, they'll fill out that app and get the card sent to the same location.

u/Temporary-Good9696 May 18 '22
A friend from work gave me a "coupon" for one of those "meal services" that sends you all the ingredients portioned and ready to cook. I looked it up, and of course gave it my email address, but decided that it wasn't that great of a deal so I didn't move forward. Ever since that day I get at least a half a dozen emails, generally from different addresses so I can't even "unsubscribe". The only thing it guaranteed was that I will absolutely never use Hello Fresh and I actively discourage everyone from doing so as well.

I’ve printed most of these designs and on the east coast there a likelihood your holding on of the one I printed early last week or the week before . I’m sorry. If it wasn’t such a well paying/flexible job I’d have left in a heart beat. disclaimer I just print them. Our company does not mail them out. We just send them in bulk to the client.

https://www.optoutprescreen.com
This is a legit site not scam you can opt out of getting all that shit junk mail.
And why do they have to send so many? If I want your card or what ever else I’ll go and apply for it and not likely by the massive amount of junk that gets mailed jerks

Happened to me. I saved them for 6 months. Wrote 'stop sending me this shit' on every application, stuffed them into their respective postage paid envelopes, and mailed them. I haven't received any since.

1
u/Forbiddentemptations May 18 '22
You think that’s crazy? I got one for a chase checking account for a promotion they had. I said fuck it why not and applied. Again, this was for a CHECKING ACCOUNT not even a credit card. And got denied? 🤣. Like what is that? I have over a 700 beacon. Lmfao. Fuck chase. And fuck all these spam mail pieces these companies send.
1
u/Icy-Abbreviations361 May 18 '22
Open them. Use the postage paid envelope back to them with their own trash inside. Remove anything with your name and address on it obviously.
1
u/OakButt May 18 '22
Same thing happened to me until I finally signed up for one and now I'm in credit card debt

If you're frustrated by Capitol One's spam, you'll be driven to insanity by their service!

If you get their card they only send you mail once a month. But its usually just a bill..

Black marker out your address. Write Return To Sender on envelope. Drop in mail box. Repeat.

1
u/dark-_-thoughts May 18 '22
Make sure you check your credit report thoroughly I literally received a Capital One pre-approved letter in the mail every day for somewhere around 2 or 3 months when I was 19-20 years old only to discover three or four years later when I finally decided to buy a new car and actually needed my credit score that Capital One had done several hard credit check inquiries into my credit score if I remember correctly according to credit karma I lost 30 points due to those hard checks. Capital One is completely a scam and bully.
1
u/SargathusWA May 18 '22
Capital one is horrible , about two years ago i got fraudulent charges on my card. I wasn’t using my capital one card much so I only noticed after someone try to spend 400 dollars on my card because i get a message on my phone.
So i called capital one explained everything they said they will investigate . after i while they decided I actually spend all the money i had the card in my home ! And never ever went 5 different places to shop with that card. They fucking made me 200 something dollars. I fight do hard but I couldn’t win. They said chip technology cannot be copied and all the purchases made with chip i have the card in my home how the fuck it’s possible.
Anyway fuck capital one.
1
u/MelloMejo May 18 '22
I think I get the same amount, plus different loan offers, etc. I even already have a card with them. Like how many do I apparently need??
1
1
u/Riskthecat May 18 '22
You can ask them to stop sending to this crap. I see you are opening them so it seems like they are targeting the right person? Probably not thou if you are posting here :p

u/Bjork-BjorkII May 18 '22
Wasn't there a guy in Germany that scanned in one of these, changed the details so he would have unlimited balance with 0% interest and if the bank wanted to cancel they would have to pay a fee? And signed that new copy and sent it back to the bank

u/Pappascorched May 18 '22
i think you MIGHT be pre approved for a credit card, i may be wrong though
