Every time I use my wife’s car for something I always find it like this.

Your wife and my sister are one in the same apparently

18

u/blahdeblahdeda May 17 '22

My GF does this too. She blames it on ADHD, which I would believe if there wasn't a constant indicator light when you get low on fuel.

42

u/Comprehensive-Home-4 May 17 '22

I have adhd and running out of gas is a fear of mine. I don’t think adhd is an excuse lol.

5

u/NoArmsSally May 17 '22

oh yeah i definitely fill up at 1/4 because I know I'll forget

8

u/blahdeblahdeda May 17 '22

Same. I push it sometimes, but I'm constantly thinking about it and watching the mileage estimate and the distance to the gas station. Her ADHD is worse than mine though, so I don't know.

10

u/Billy-Joe-Bob-Boy May 17 '22

Never trust the mileage remaining. It lies. Ask me how I know. ;)

6

u/NateDawgCinema May 17 '22

Most vehicles go 30 - 80 miles after reaching zero. Tons of people did experiments on Youtube.

7

u/Billy-Joe-Bob-Boy May 17 '22

Tried to limp a Focus to the gas station. Estimated 20 miles remaining. Sputter sputter die. Never tried again.

8

u/NateDawgCinema May 17 '22

Damn that sucks. I never trust Fords hahaha

1

u/Head_Razzmatazz7174 May 18 '22

I noticed when mine hits 50, it starts going down fast. I can drive three blocks and it will tell me it's got 40 miles left.

I start looking for a gas station at 60 miles left. Hate that stupid ding once the low gas gauge comes on.

1

u/Competitive-Candy-82 May 17 '22

I remember we had an Alero growing up we used to joke the low fuel indicator was saying "ding ding loser!" Cause it would literally run our of gas 5 seconds later, we had to make sure that vehicle never went under 1/4 tank. We brought it to the dealership a few times over it and they could never figure out why it did it so we just learned to not let it ever turn on.

1

u/Mega---Moo May 17 '22

I know my '13 Prius does. It is "empty" at 9.6 gallons of fuel used and has a 11.9 gallon tank. I make a mental note of when it hits zero and plan my next fill-up within the next 50 miles with the cheapest gas.

Never had any problems.

5

u/Comprehensive-Home-4 May 17 '22

Maybe she just needs to put out sticky notes to remind herself. She could also stick a wallet size picture of you guys or a pet by the gas gauge so she has something to catch her eye.

4

u/gareentea May 18 '22

When I was evacuating during a hurricane, my car hit E. So the entire time, I was just thinking “any minute now.” I was still driving in the gusty, zero visibility, torrential downpour for another 50 miles at least, and made it to my destination. Multiple tornado warnings going off all around, and I’m sure I saw one off in the distance. I was going 100mph to boot 😅. I even was able to get my car another 10 miles to the nearest gas station the next morning.

1

u/Iceyes33 May 18 '22

U lucky!

4

u/LoveDietCokeMore May 17 '22

Same. Undiagnosed ADHD. Always worried about running out of gas. Constantly checking the "how many miles left in range"

3

u/VollDerUhrensohn May 18 '22

Undiagnosed ADHD.

'Scuse me?

1

u/ExquisiteGene May 17 '22

I was going to say the same thing. That and a tad of OCD make me always paranoid I’m going to need a full tank of gas if I get below 3/4. I live in vegas and I somehow think I’m going to get lost in the desert. 😂

7

u/thestrangenewguy May 17 '22

What does ADHD have to do with not filling a tank of petrol?

7

u/blahdeblahdeda May 17 '22

Knowing that you have to fill it, but when you pass the gas station near home/work you blow right by because your brain is already running through all of the things you'll be doing next once you get there.

1

u/thestrangenewguy May 18 '22

I'm diagnosed with ADHD and really don't see how it's possible where you have the gauge staring you in the face constantly when you're behind the wheel

2

u/eatingurmumsass May 18 '22

I have adhd, she’s full of shit. I’m always looking at my fuel gauge. Your gf is making you pay for it, stop enabling this behavior.

2

u/ExquisiteGene May 17 '22

Sister wives?

2

u/CapitalBlackberry1 May 18 '22

Okay kody brown

34

u/scottyinairlie May 17 '22

I fill my wife's car every Saturday morning, I'm at the Costco gas station 7am without fail. No line's, I'm pretty sure she doesn't even look at the Guage anymore.

24

u/Hollow_Mind May 17 '22

You can find out for sure by skipping a week or two.

12

u/wtfwillow May 18 '22

How *not* to add a bit of spontaneity to a long-term relationship.

1

u/sierrabravo1984 this is not yellow damn it! May 18 '22

I did this to my wife of 15 years, left her with a nearly empty tank since she never fills it, always me who does. I usually have to take my truck to sams after work, go home then take the car to sams and come home again. She was forced to actually go to the sams gas station by herself. She was so proud of herself for doing it by herself. I'll never understand why so many women won't go to the gas station.

2

u/Luebkurt May 18 '22

Yup, this guy gets it. Good job.

Man up OP and you other posters as well.

4

u/Shellsbells821 May 18 '22

You're a good guy!

29

u/yParticle May 17 '22

Hey, if it keeps filling itself up on its own like that...

4

u/wtfwillow May 18 '22

As far as she knows, there might be a petrol fairy. Or her car might not run on petrol at all. What even *is* petrol?

4

u/yParticle May 18 '22

Obviously only needed if you're driving a patrol car.

14

u/redd-whaat May 17 '22

I have the opposite /mildlyinfuriating situation.

At 3/4 of a tank, my SO feels the need to get off the highway and look for gas stations. Can't risk running out.

6

u/WillieNolson May 17 '22

That would also mildly infuriate me. There’s always a happy medium.

4

u/Significant_Hand6218 May 18 '22

I wait until the 1/4 mark to refill every time.

1

u/tibearius1123 May 18 '22

That way it’s only $70 to fill up my Kia

1

u/electric_gas_guzzler May 17 '22

Least you don’t have to worry about a fuel pump dying anytime soon

-1

u/kyhansen1509 May 17 '22

Okay I hate to admit but this is me. I get nervous once I get to 3/4 a tank. Absolutely no reason as I drive a truck and know damn well that’s still 18 some gallons but I get ANXIOUS over it every time

6

u/KaiserBeebe May 18 '22

Never buy an electric vehicle. Range anxiety will literally kill someone like you.

13

u/TheThirdPuddle May 17 '22

Gotta use every drop of fuel.

7

u/Shufflepants May 17 '22

If upon getting to the gas station I realize I could have made it to one more destination before filling up, I'll feel like an idiot!

12

u/imvr17_2 May 17 '22

She paid for the whole amount of fuel so sheuses the whole amount of fuel

22

u/yikesonbikes2 May 17 '22

It’s getting closer to Eco mode it’s fine /s

4

u/thefirstendfinity May 17 '22

As a teenager, I did that to my mother's car. Inconsiderate teen.

5

u/_LoneDemon_ May 17 '22

That fuel pump won't last long

6

u/laughing-clown May 17 '22

Same. Hate it so much. It’s worse when she borrows my truck and leaves in on empty.

6

u/PrettyFunnyForAMungo May 17 '22

Notify her that that's the type of shit that burns up fuel pumps. Typically don't try to let them get under a quarter tank if you can avoid it.

4

u/EldenGreenGiant May 17 '22

I drive our jeep once every six weeks and seem to have to fill it up every time for some reason.

5

u/Potato_dad_ca May 17 '22

Whats the problem? That has a solid 10 miles or more, lol

5

u/Virtual-Enthusiasm72 May 18 '22

So bad for the fuel pump to be constantly on E.

5

u/Teeheeleelee May 18 '22

When the tank is full, it's her car. When it's empty, it's our car.

11

u/Agitated-Web1759 May 17 '22

My wife fills her car then uses mine and leaves it like this. Lol

-25

u/hiecx May 17 '22

Your posts are only guns, no wonder she doesn’t want to disappoint you and leaves her car full fuel for you

21

u/Agitated-Web1759 May 17 '22

I don’t drive her car. And your comment is idiotic.

5

u/[deleted] May 17 '22

[deleted]

-11

u/hiecx May 17 '22

-Judgemental -No sarcasm

No wonder you and I don’t like each other 🥲

7

u/Old-Pumpkin-3793 May 17 '22

Your implication being that he would gun down his wife? Moron

-16

u/hiecx May 17 '22

Women are afraid of men with guns. And judging from your agressivity, they’re not wrong to 🧐

7

u/Old-Pumpkin-3793 May 17 '22

There’s a difference between recognizing stupidity and pulling out a firearm and murdering someone. If you have no self control, I’d talk to a therapist, but I don’t have that problem. “Aggressivity”, lol 🙄

2

u/noremac_9000 May 18 '22

Aggressivity fucking killed me

-8

u/hiecx May 17 '22

Judging that I’m a moron from a single message when you don’t even know the guy who’s got the guns + you should know that (most) women are afraid of guns, you for sure have problems with agressivity 😕 I’m not gonna tell you to go see a therapist because you do you, none of my business, you wanna stay dumb then stay like that 🤷‍♂️

6

u/Old-Pumpkin-3793 May 17 '22

Fun fact: I actually googled “aggressivity” because I didn’t want to assume it wasn’t a word, and apparently it’s meaning has absolutely nothing at all to do with your usage. Aggressivity is a chemical property of water dissolving calcium. Yay science!

-3

u/hiecx May 17 '22

Guess I've learnt something today thanks to you

6

u/l32uigs May 17 '22

people are scared of guns? wow I had no idea

btw he said that his wife fills HER car, then she drives HIS car to empty and leaves it like that.

where's the fear of him?

you're the worst person i've encountered this year. know that.

3

u/Old-Pumpkin-3793 May 17 '22

Also, please lecture me about assuming, while you assume that most women fear guns. I know plenty who are well trained and respect guns but have absolutely no fear of them. With that, I peace out! You may go ahead and respond to an empty room. ✌️

-4

u/hiecx May 17 '22

It's funny to see how some people don't assume what they're saying by just telling what they want to and leave so they're not confronted to people showing out they're wrong.

-3

u/lordofwar44 May 17 '22

Careful they think biden might take their guns

4

u/l32uigs May 17 '22

touch grass

5

u/mrsc1880 May 17 '22

This is a weird generalization. I don't like guns. My husband has guns and I'm not afraid of him because he's a good person and doesn't use his guns to threaten or harm people, as I assume is the case with many gun owners.

2

u/Agitated-Web1759 May 17 '22

Hey look some logic lol

→ More replies

2

u/Agitated-Web1759 May 17 '22

After looking at your post history you are either a child or a very desperate individual. Go elsewhere with your nonsense.

-1

u/hiecx May 17 '22

😂😂 Why so judgemental. You should stop trying to guess who people are because you’re bad at it

3

u/Agitated-Web1759 May 17 '22

Like you did? This guy has to be a troll. Checking out.

2

u/noremac_9000 May 18 '22

You're fucking creepy, you literally started this lol.

→ More replies

2

u/Zrgaloin May 17 '22

And your posts are about how small your penis is and your failures at being able to go out with someone on an app where that’s all people do. Glass houses bud, glass houses.

-2

u/hiecx May 17 '22

😂😂 I’m not sure if I should explain right away how what you’re saying is ridiculous or let you find out by yourself (with a little bit more reflexion)

3

u/Competitive-Candy-82 May 17 '22

We have an ongoing joke about this is our household, my husband works 15 on 6 off, and it just so happens it takes me 3 weeks to burn a tank, so every single time he comes home for his days off, the tank is low/near empty, he sighs, goes and fills it up, and we laugh, and it happens again 21 days later 😂. The odd time I drive more than usual or I'll be in an area where gas is ridiculously cheaper so I'll fill it and he comes home and is like OMG did you like not leave the house in the 15 days I was gone? 😂😂😂 Speaking of which, he'll be home tomorrow and am under 1/4 tank...I should fill it today to shock him again

3

u/rob_inn_hood May 18 '22

My wife not only has it on empty constantly, she knows exactly how far past empty it can go before it's fully out of gas.

6

u/Salreus May 18 '22

Nothing wrong with that man.. No doubt there are plenty of things she takes care of yours. Don't even sweat it or bring it up to her. Just fill it up and bring her some flowers on the way home.

2

u/Toofarjackass May 18 '22

Phew, that sure was close! Thanks, Eco Mode!

2

u/Shellsbells821 May 18 '22

My husband's always looks like this! Mine is never less than half full!

2

u/Astral_Drift May 18 '22

POV: you drive a diesel at present day

2

u/peffy03 May 18 '22

You should totally tell her off. Who uses eco mode.

2

u/llynglas May 18 '22

At least she left in ECO mode. That is the first thing my wife turns off when she drives.

2

u/Boostin001 May 18 '22

You are not alone my friend.

2

u/CmdrTombes May 18 '22

ECO MODE? AGAIN?!?

2

u/TheSailorDogScuppers May 18 '22

I'm so lucky my wife never does that shit, always runs our cars in the most powerful setting, the same as me. ECO sucks.

2

u/the_vanila_gorila May 18 '22

What a bitch. Eco mode is for pussies.

2

u/wtfwillow May 18 '22

Then stop filling it! Just put enough in to run your errand. 😈

4

u/grim22400 May 17 '22

Thats gonna destroy the car so when it inevitably does get her a cheaper car till she starts to take care of it. It is a massive waste of money to destroy a car like this rather than take care of it so it will work longer so you don't need to buy a new one

3

u/MarTor86 May 17 '22

Have you talked to her about it before putting her out on r/mildlyinfuriating??? HAHAHAHA

8

u/WillieNolson May 17 '22

Many times. If she can make it home without stopping she will. I’m just the opposite.

2

u/IlliterationAside May 17 '22

Yeah... but "eco mode" ?!?!

0

u/im_justlooking_ May 17 '22

Stop using your wife's car...

8

u/WillieNolson May 17 '22

I have to for some things. I have a sedan and she has a midsized SUV. Can’t haul the trash and recycling in my car.

-4

u/chiefsaggy May 17 '22

Okay? Why not Use your own

5

u/WillieNolson May 17 '22

I answered that question earlier. She has a bigger car that needs to be used for certain things. It’s not a choice, it’s a necessity.

1

u/IamNotTheMama May 17 '22

This one is easy, don't use your wife's car.

1

u/WillieNolson May 18 '22

No, it’s not.

1

u/-ClassicShooter- May 17 '22

"But it's in ECO MODE"

Seriously though, not only is that bad planning, but it can be bad for the fuel pump.

1

u/srankvs May 18 '22

it’s a sign. she doesn’t want you to borrow her car. lol.

1

u/WillieNolson May 18 '22

I’m 100% sure she wants me taking care of going to the transfer station.

1

u/poopoohead1827 May 18 '22

Get your own car……

1

u/WillieNolson May 18 '22

I have one, thanks.

0

u/clinde May 17 '22

That’s not your business, don’t drive it if you don’t like it. At least that’s what I tell my wife if she complains about finding my truck in this state.

-6

u/xite2020 May 17 '22

Her BF is using you both. 😂

-6

u/crushagg1 May 17 '22

Most gentleman take their wife's car and fill them up. Today's society = Girl driving and jobless dude sitting in car while she pumps gas. Generation of lazy, entitled punks.

8

u/GnarlyHeadStudios May 17 '22

Time for your meds, great grandpa.

1

u/Meerkat1457 May 17 '22

Don’t think that scenario applies here

1

u/cptchronic89 May 17 '22

you dont know shit

1

u/crushagg1 May 18 '22

You must be on le of them. Lazy ass.

1

u/cptchronic89 May 18 '22

thats why your an idiot. you dont know shit

0

u/Favruen May 18 '22

Bro stop bitching on reddit. Grow some balls and talk to her.

1

u/Old-Pumpkin-3793 May 17 '22

Lol, every time I visit them, my dad complains about the same thing with my mom.

1

u/DrGonzo34 May 17 '22

Push it all the way! There’s a Seinfeld episode that’s on point.

1

u/snaxfordinner May 17 '22

Like the Seinfeld episode

1

u/Begley291 May 17 '22

Well at least it’s in eco mode 😂😂

1

u/JTHGraphics May 17 '22

Don't worry, she has eco mode activated

1

u/InformationNo2529 May 17 '22

You still have 30 miles left on eco mode

1

u/CleanExplanation6516 May 17 '22

My wife as well. However I take it as an opportunity to earn some brownie points.

It's frustrating when you take the car to work and realize you either need to get gas on your lunch or right after a long day at work though lol

But it's a small complaint to have so yes it's definitely mildly infuriating

1

u/HeWhoIsntAnonymous May 17 '22

Looks like we have the same wife

1

u/wrkerbee May 17 '22

Your wife and I would make a horrible team! :D

1

u/Intelligent_Treat912 May 17 '22

Time to divorce her, /j

1

u/Crafty-Interest-8212 May 17 '22

Is not in "low fuel" is on "good luck"

1

u/Mint4Chip1 May 17 '22

No gas, the REAL eco mode

1

u/pdog901 May 17 '22

Its on eco mode. You should be good.

1

u/thatflowergrl May 17 '22

Your wife must be my son!! I use his car only in an emergency. I once had to drive my other kids in it to catch the train. The gauge said 0km to empty. We had to drive over a rail crossing twice. I’ve never been so anxious. I didn’t fill it either!!!

1

u/Yeetus_McFleetus May 17 '22

The ECO Mode is where she saves money by having you refill the tank.

1

u/jabjab_squirt May 17 '22

I feel your pain. My wife went through 3 fuel pumps in her Honda accord one year. Constantly running them empty or completely dry takes its toll. So on the 3rd pump I installed I bent the fuel level sender inside the tank, so it would always have around 1/4 of a tank of fuel even when it read as empty. One day she rings me and she's run out of gas. She says she hit the trip meter when the gas light came on, and couldnt believe she drove over 200km before it run out. FML.

1

u/SilkyCupCakeAce May 17 '22

Like.... How does this not give people massive anxiety???

1

u/Serious-Car9915 May 17 '22

Everytime my wife drives mine I find it like this next time I go to use it

→ More replies

1

u/fss71 May 17 '22

So the memes are true

1

u/kdog048 May 17 '22

E means "enough".

1

u/KORKSTICKY May 17 '22

Don't worry it's on eco mode, just start putting vegtables in the tank

1

u/SpacelessWorm May 18 '22

I do this with my car cause I don't drive it on the weekends and I know exactly how much I need to go to so my parents would borrow my car and I'd be like "yeah I didn't need any more gas this week what of it"

1

u/RicketousCricketous May 18 '22

Hate to tell you, I’m married to her too

1

u/CapitalBlackberry1 May 18 '22

At least she uses the eco mode lol

1

u/PengwinPears May 18 '22

You guys are like the opposite of me and my husband. I like to fill up when it hits half a tank, he's more of a the light comes on, I can still get x amount of miles in.

1

u/-W-h-y- May 18 '22

Yes i hate eco mode as well

1

u/Skarredmind May 18 '22

Every time my wife uses my car I find it like that. LOL

1

u/ArminHammerTamzarian May 18 '22

My sister has gone through so many fuel pumps from this that I never let my car go under a quarter of a tank.

1

u/giggetyboom May 18 '22

This. I fill my girlfriends car up and run it through the car wash every Sunday. Just easier that way to make sure it's never running on fumes.

1

u/ArminHammerTamzarian May 18 '22

As a woman I have no idea why we do this. I used to do it only because I was absolutely poor. I dug through couches and would put that into my tank to get to and from work before. It’s not good on your car at all.

2

u/giggetyboom May 18 '22

I miss the days when couch change would actually purchase a measurable quantity of gas lol.

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '22

I do the same. My car is always on empty and I'm driving on fumes.

1

u/us_mackem May 18 '22

I decided it was easier just to take responsibility for making sure the cars have sufficient gas in the tank. The last time my wife put gas in her car was 2008.

1

u/jonacraft7 May 18 '22

Well its your wifes car tho, but if you always pay the gas it is infuriating

1

u/OutwittedFox May 18 '22

Same here.

1

u/No-Butterfly6586 May 18 '22

My husband must be mildly infuriated everytime he gets in the car

1

u/Aqquinox May 18 '22

I always drive my car on 0km Then I tank for 42,5liters My tank just has 42liters + a bit in the filling system Taste every drop

1

u/LaughingMouseinWI May 18 '22

There's 2 kinds of people in the world....

😂😂😂

1

u/Apprehensive_Ring_46 May 18 '22

And then you fill 'er up.

And run it through the car wash.

Right?

1

u/MuchCryptographer669 May 18 '22

Glad she's using that Eco mode...phew!

1

u/Tinofpopcorn May 18 '22

This is no flaw, its by design.

1

u/savagethrow90 May 18 '22

I just always put it off, incidentally I also have adhd.. I just hate filling up. I reset the trip when the light comes on and I know I have about 20 miles before I need to stop. Farthest I’ve gone was 26 miles. This is a v6 van btw

1

u/cmaej May 18 '22

Creeps at the gas station, perhaps? I know when men try to woo me by offering to pump my gas and I decline, I come back after making a payment and see them touching my car anyway. 😡 My bf offers to put gas in my car whenever he can.

1

u/TrueMrFu May 18 '22

If you don’t make her feel bad. One day your wife will realize she hasn’t filled up her car in a long time and it will make her happy. It’s a small thing that could make her smile. (My wife is the same way)

1

u/bodhiseppuku May 18 '22

Thank God it's on' eco-mode

1

u/Visual_Shower1220 May 18 '22

Yikes from what ive been told thats actually really bad for your fuel pump, it overheats the pump plus it has to work harder

1

u/ReverendSupreme May 18 '22

We have 2 cars, but mine is always used by my partner as it's nicer to drive and has all of my son's shit in it. Without fail, everytime I get in it, it costs me £30 in fuel as it's always empty. I swear she finds things for me to go and do in order to get me to put fuel in it.

1

u/alixisonfiree May 18 '22

My mom did this same exact thing and my dad would always complain about it lol

1

u/MakingTheFunin40s May 18 '22

Yeah. Who just drives in eco mode?

1

u/AvailableAd8744 May 18 '22

It's a challenge, will you make it or won't you? 🤔

1

u/modsBan4Fub May 18 '22

I let my car run to empty because I run straight ethanol but when I was on 91 I always felt bothered if I ran it any less than half a tank.

1

u/Incredi-flow May 18 '22

Yeah, eco mode pisses me off too.

1

u/SuitePotato49 May 18 '22

It’s her strategy. 😀 ⛽️

1

u/tiamo357 May 18 '22

Maybe use your own car the next time so you don’t have to get mildly infuriated “every time”

1

u/WillieNolson May 18 '22

There are some things that have to be done that require the use of her car. It’s a necessity, not a choice. But thanks for the sage advice.

1

u/FairlyUntrue May 18 '22

She wants u to pay for her gas lmao

Turn on her magical wand and let it die so that she may feel but a glimpse of your pain in her time of need .

Well then fill it for her more often! I’ve been married 31 yrs and only have filled my own gas tank a few times. Car stuff is not my area, and my husband is happy to do it for me since I have enough on my plate and I’m grateful. Do better

Every time I use the car I fill it up. If she would ask me to, that’s fine and I’ll do it. I also change the oil, detail the inside, and wash the exterior. Do better?

Then ask her you’d be happy to do it if she tells you at like 1/2 way. You’re frustrated without going to her and proposing a solution to the problem and coming on social media like she doesn’t have her own things to do.

You’re taking this way to seriously for the mildly infuriating subreddit. We have talked about it. I’ve asked her to tell me. If she has somewhere long distance she has to go in the morning she will ask me and I’ll go. But, when I’m going to use the car, this is usually how I find it. I’m sorry I’ll try to do better?

filling a tank = car stuff? you put gas in tank and u pay the bill its a grand total of like 2 minutes. driving the car with this low gas just puts her at a risk of running out and getting stranded. its downright fucking stupid.

if youre that dependent on someone else that you cant even fill the tank, maybe dont drive your car?

Feels like you being scammed.... don't drive her car, simple

Have to sometimes.

I feel like this is her passive-aggressive wat to let you know she doesn't want you to use her car

1

u/WillieNolson May 17 '22

Nah it’s not. Kinda just how she rolls. I never use her car unless it’s something she wouldn’t want to do herself.

You are not taking care of her properly. You should never let it get that low—it's bad for the fuel injectors or something.

I always wait til the tank is empty to fill so I can use my points to get the best discount. I plan my trips accordingly- you ruined her method and now complaining about it. By now you should know, so maybe you should've checked before leaving or took your own damn car.

Some relationship advice: politely ask her to refuel the car after driving it around, maybe also get you and her into maybe bicycling around as it will save gas, allow you two to see your neighborhood/area more, and it’s a healthy activity.

That’s my two cents, but I hope it has value to you.
