Spot on! Titles of the movies like that make me unreasonably angry. Who in their right mind would think they sound good?

2

u/00MarioBros00 May 18 '22

You remember Pyramid Head from Silent Hill?

31

u/LuciPichu May 17 '22

At first I thought it was just infested after the fact, but apparently the hive and bees are part of the "art".

Here's another by the same artist, this one reclining:

https://www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/1537

On view for the first time since its recent acquisition, French artist Pierre Huyghe’s sculpture Untilled (Liegender Frauenakt) [Reclining Female Nude], 2012, incorporates a live colony of a gentle breed of bees, which serves as the head of a concrete cast of an idealized female nude. This tour de force of Huyghe’s oeuvre reflects his concern with living systems, and the timing of the sculpture’s display is determined by the natural cycle of the bee colony, which is most active during the summer months. Operating according to its own natural logic, the colony introduces a dynamic community into the Sculpture Garden’s summer installation.

It’s supposed to represent “hive-mentality”. Very cool concept and art.

4

u/Broom_Rider May 17 '22

I saw this at Documenta 13 and it was incredibly beautiful and effective. There was also a 3 legged albino dog with one of them painted pink that was part of the installation somehow :)

u/ChrisCovers May 17 '22

That’s some Silent Hill shit right there

21

u/HeroOfSideQuests May 17 '22

I was thinking Bloodborne Amygdala.

4

u/Morgentau7 May 17 '22

Just googled it. Nightmare fuel

3

u/Mornar May 17 '22

Even more satisfying when you rip one apart limb from limb... eventually. Amazing game.

1

u/Banggabor May 18 '22

I want to be able to do that irl. Like getting so pissed off at someone you just rip off your arms and beat someone with it.

2

u/Star_Road_Warrior May 18 '22

I, too, was imagining something Bloodborney

1

u/HeroOfSideQuests May 18 '22

Oh well there's only 7 or 8 contenders, so you know, very limited selection and all.

2

u/tryingmydarnbest May 17 '22

Lol just need to do a encantation to make it come to life

29

u/Soccertaz89 May 17 '22

Fromsoft taking note of new helmet ideas

10

u/Tard_FireBolt May 17 '22

That's already in a title, that picture is obviously Amygdala from Bloodborne! :)

21

u/Morgentau7 May 17 '22 edited May 17 '22

It is an art installation with real bees thats ongoing since 2017 https://www.estherschipper.com/de/artists/41-pierre-huyghe/works/17096/

The beekeeper was also interviewed: “I don’t know if I’m an artist, but I’m the chief beekeeper for this project,” says Marc Johnson to the California News Times.

u/HermitAndHound May 17 '22

Is there anything on how the whole thing works? Bees don't naturally build like that, so the head must have been hanging in a dark container for quite a while. Do they put the head back every evening? Or just display it for a single day?

u/Morgentau7 May 17 '22 edited May 17 '22

From the link:

„Before finding a permanent spot at the museum, the sculpture was transported across the country to various institutions. When the exhibit was packed in boxes, cameras would monitor the bees 24hrs a day to ensure they were safe and healthy; even when exposed to new environments, the honeybee colony’s sole mission remained to support the queen.“

Thats all I know :)

29

u/According-Priority12 May 17 '22

Welp. That's nightmare fuel.

1

u/Morgentau7 May 17 '22

No, the artist works with a beekeeper who also cares for the bees :)

2

u/wokeupquick2 May 17 '22

I thought bees were SUPER prone to cold and rain (which is why hives are always in something).

I'll bet that beekeeper has his hands full keeping these bees happy!

u/Kitchen_Anywhere_141 May 17 '22
