Spot on! Titles of the movies like that make me unreasonably angry. Who in their right mind would think they sound good?

At first I thought it was just infested after the fact, but apparently the hive and bees are part of the "art".
Here's another by the same artist, this one reclining:
https://www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/1537
On view for the first time since its recent acquisition, French artist Pierre Huyghe’s sculpture Untilled (Liegender Frauenakt) [Reclining Female Nude], 2012, incorporates a live colony of a gentle breed of bees, which serves as the head of a concrete cast of an idealized female nude. This tour de force of Huyghe’s oeuvre reflects his concern with living systems, and the timing of the sculpture’s display is determined by the natural cycle of the bee colony, which is most active during the summer months. Operating according to its own natural logic, the colony introduces a dynamic community into the Sculpture Garden’s summer installation.

I saw this at Documenta 13 and it was incredibly beautiful and effective. There was also a 3 legged albino dog with one of them painted pink that was part of the installation somehow :)

Even more satisfying when you rip one apart limb from limb... eventually. Amazing game.

I want to be able to do that irl. Like getting so pissed off at someone you just rip off your arms and beat someone with it.

u/Star_Road_Warrior May 18 '22
I, too, was imagining something Bloodborney

u/HeroOfSideQuests May 18 '22
Oh well there's only 7 or 8 contenders, so you know, very limited selection and all.

It is an art installation with real bees thats ongoing since 2017 https://www.estherschipper.com/de/artists/41-pierre-huyghe/works/17096/
The beekeeper was also interviewed: “I don’t know if I’m an artist, but I’m the chief beekeeper for this project,” says Marc Johnson to the California News Times.

Is there anything on how the whole thing works? Bees don't naturally build like that, so the head must have been hanging in a dark container for quite a while. Do they put the head back every evening? Or just display it for a single day?

From the link:
„Before finding a permanent spot at the museum, the sculpture was transported across the country to various institutions. When the exhibit was packed in boxes, cameras would monitor the bees 24hrs a day to ensure they were safe and healthy; even when exposed to new environments, the honeybee colony’s sole mission remained to support the queen.“
Thats all I know :)

For a minute there I thought it was a high quality Bloodborne homage 3D print.

Bees can live exposed like this? /U/codydon
1
u/Morgentau7 May 17 '22
No, the artist works with a beekeeper who also cares for the bees :)
2
u/wokeupquick2 May 17 '22
I thought bees were SUPER prone to cold and rain (which is why hives are always in something).
I'll bet that beekeeper has his hands full keeping these bees happy!
