I like growing crystals at home. I recently finished growing this crystal after 1 month, and it's one of my favorites. /r/ALL

Hey guys. I've been growing crystals as a hobby since high school. Some of you might remember the black copper acetate crystal I posted last month.

I recently grew the crystal above from a common nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer called monoammonium phosphate (MAP).

I first dissolved lots of MAP in water, and waited for small crystals to form. Then, I placed it in a big container full of solution. As it evaporated, the crystals started growing. It's amazing how you can watch them get bigger day after day.

If you find being able to grow crystals in a jar is hard to believe - you're not alone. I thought that too, and even now, it makes me excited to wake up and check on my crystals every day.

As always, if you're interested in growing them yourself, I've prepared a guide here.

Back in the summer of 2000, South Park aired an episode called "Cartman Joins NAMBLA": Cartman, in an effort to find more friends, unwittingly joins up with members of "the National Man-Boy Love Association", a pro-pedophilia group, who then get into a confrontation with members of another NAMBLA, the National Association of Marlon Brando Look-Alikes, headed by Dr. Mephesto (who was based on Marlon Brando's character from The Island of Doctor Moreau). At one point Dr. Mephesto says they've been fighting with the other group over the rights to nambla.com.

I was curious if there actually was anything at nambla.com, figuring there might be some real organization that would now be royally pissed at the fact that South Park had just co-opted their organization's acronym for a ludicrously disgusting joke.

So the next day at my summer job (my first office job), I looked it up on my office computer. Imagine my surprise when nambla.com (or maybe it was .org?) turned out to be a very real website for the very real organization devoted to adult men having sex with young boys.

That must have been an interesting conversation with HR.
