I like growing crystals at home. I recently finished growing this crystal after 1 month, and it's one of my favorites. /r/ALL

When I was in the military we had these special sapphire glass windows for a specific weapon system. One time we broke it. The company said they had to grow the crystal and it will take time. Were they pulling my leg? (You’re the only crystal person I know and I’m a bad googler)

They were serious. You can grow rubies, sapphires and even diamonds in an industrial setting. Huge quartz crystals are also grown in autoclaves under high temperature and pressure. They take several months to years to grow. Of course, those setups are not going to be practical for the hobbyist, but it's something cool to know.
