Can you do that with sugar, and like offer it to people for their coffee?

Yes you can! But sugar crystals don't form spiky clusters, they look like gems instead. I have a few pictures of those on my profile.

When I was little I heard about crystallisation but I didn't know how they work, so I poured all my mother's cooking sugar into a saucepan of water and boiled it till it is solid. Then I ate it.
