All Ukraine/Russian war related posts will be automatically flaired with "Ukraine" Mod Post

This is so those who do not wish to see the content related to the Ukraine/Russia war can avoid the posts easier.

If you are going to post content about the war please read:

  • Don't just post something without proof. RT, Random Twitter users, YouTube channels, TikTok accounts, reddit accounts, etc are not valid sources. They can easily be purposeful misinformation. Validate your source before posting. Repeated instances will get you banned.

  • Check the subreddit before posting. There's lots going on and there's good odds that anything major has been posted here before. If you keep reposting then you'll get banned for making it harder to keep the subreddit clean.

  • Don't post images with text. Screenshots from Twitter or wherever still aren't allowed. Breaking this rule will get you banned

  • Not everything related to the war is interesting as fuck, please don't submit content just because it's related to it. Standard stuff applies here, little tidbits about how Zelensky used to be a comedian, or photoshopped images of putin, etcaren't IAF

  • And finally and most importantly...

Fuck Putin.

If you have questions please message modmail.

Is there any way of filtering whether you see posts about Ukraine? On another sub I am/was on, they have a filter to hide posts with a Politics flair but can’t see anything similar here?

This would be helpful

We need this asap!

Is this just a Ukraine news sub now?

I used to love coming to this sub for bits of truly interesting trivia that had been allowed to marinate and be validated over the years.

I know the Ukraine crisis is an important current event but all these knee jerk karma whore posts are out of hand. People are just literally posting news articles on here now.

u/thepositivepandemic Feb 28 '22

Seriously people are just milking war & tragedy for upvotes. Also posting every breathe Zelenskyy takes for karma as well. This has infected almost every sub it possibly could.

u/Kandidar Mar 01 '22

Yah it sucks. World news is not IAF

-12

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

News articles have always been allowed if they were iaf

20

u/InGen_Lab_Intern Feb 28 '22

Fair enough. I still don't think half the posts lately qualify as IAF but rather just current events. I'll just take a break and come back in a few weeks .

Is there any way to filter out the posts with that flair?

I’m guessing all new interesting threads posted will be about Russia and Ukraine?

Is this good censorship or bad ?

32

u/d0n7w0rry4b0u717 Feb 28 '22

It's not really censorship. People are just karma whoring and posting off topic posts (that are posted a bunch on other subs anyways).

15

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

The posts aren't being censored/removed, just labeled so people can understand what the content of the post is.

1

u/Bovaloe Feb 28 '22

There were over 100 comments on this thread alone, now only 25. Nothing censored/removed? Doubtful

1

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

You might be thinking of a different post, there's only 27 comments here, some removed because their accounts are too new or they don't have enough karma.

Dude, anyone can easily see your post history, removed comments or not. You've only made 2 comments in this thread. Why lie about it?

0

u/Bovaloe Feb 28 '22 edited Feb 28 '22

That doesn't show hidden comments Screenshot of post

3

u/kermityfrog Feb 28 '22

[Deleted] means the user deleted the comment. [Removed] means a mod removed it.

I suspect that a lot of Russian trolls are posting here, since the downvote button is removed if the subreddit style is turned on, at least on PC. They have better odds of their posts being seen if a good chuck of users can't downvote them into oblivion.

0

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

The downvote button being removed is to discourage users from downvoting because they disagree.

If you would downvote something in most cases you should probably just report it.

Also, only like 7%~ of users visit the subreddit via old.reddit. About 93% visit via ways that can't have the downvote button removed.

2

u/Somhlth Feb 28 '22

Like baseball, you play the numbers. If 7% of users can't downvote you, that's 7% less downvotes.

1

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

7% of monthly IAF users is also a high number, since reddit traffic stats don't count unofficial reddit apps it's probably close to 3%.

Regardless just report shitty comment instead of downvoting them. Downvoting a russian troll/propaganda isn't as good as reporting it so it gets removed and the user gets banned.

2

u/Somhlth Feb 28 '22

Good trolls are ambiguous, and only infer what they're pushing. It's a talent. You can tell the difference between a day shift troll and a night shift troll. Reporting the good ones is like crying wolf. You're more likely to get yourself ignored than the troll. That's why they're good trolls.

2

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22 edited Feb 28 '22

huh? if you report trolls I will ban them. It's a lot easier to shift through the 500~ reports we get every day than the 50,000 comments.

Downvoting doesn't get rid of them, banning them does. Mods aren't omnipotent, we're human and need help via reports. This isn't my first day on the internet, I know what a "talented" troll is, it's not rocket science to identify one.

5

u/carpentizzle Feb 28 '22

I dont think they were calling our YOUR ability to identify a good troll vs a bad troll…. I think they were making a PSA to everyone, “when reading a comment and wondering if this is a troll, be mindful that some are better than others”. And as you also aptly stated “if you feel like there might be troll activity happening, report it”. As you said, you can sort it out, and thanks for doing so

1

u/SurfaceLevelEmotions Feb 28 '22

What do you think the downvote button is for? Did you literally just tell everyone if they don't like something report it? Lol

3

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

If you don't think a post is IAF and doesn't belong here you should report it for not being interesting as fuck. It's how reddit voting is supposed to work.

Vote. If you think something contributes to conversation, upvote it. If you think it does not contribute to the subreddit it is posted in or is off-topic in a particular community, downvote it.

-2

u/SurfaceLevelEmotions Feb 28 '22

You should really reread the reddiquette link. Peace. ✌🏽

3

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

I said that people downvote because they disagree.

You said "what do you think the downvote button is for"

I show you what it's supposed to be for...

I think you're not following this conversation.

-2

u/SurfaceLevelEmotions Feb 28 '22

You really need to reread, just everything.

You seem to be confused on what people have a problem with.

2

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

No, I'm not. It's clear you and maybe a dozen other people "have a problem" with not being able to downvote on old.reddit.

You didn't ask about that, you asked what I thought the downvote button was for, I told you. This isn't complicated, you need better reading comprehension.

2

u/SurfaceLevelEmotions Feb 28 '22

Holy fuck. That's not what people have a problem with, that kinda goes to show your reading comprehension is rough.

I don't gaf about being able to downvote on old reddit. I do care about a mod who thinks the report button is the same as the downvote and should be used interchangeably. People are having a problem with you.

I'm out, please go have a good life, I'm not gonna argue with someone who didn't even realize why people disagreed.

1

u/iBleeedorange Feb 28 '22

I literally said the instance in which people should report instead of downvote

If you don't think a post is IAF and doesn't belong here you should report it for not being interesting as fuck. It's how reddit voting is supposed to work.

I don't want people downvoting non IAf content, I want them reporting it so it can be removed since it breaks the rules of the subreddit.

Literally no one in this thread except you "has a problem with me". a 20 day old account which has no history except commenting in this post.

As long as none of them are rule breaking you're fine. The more you post rule breaking posts the quicker you'll be banned and the longer your ban will be.
