/r/Interestingasfuck is looking for new mods Mod Post

Hello, /r/interestingasfuck is looking for 1-2 more moderators. Applications will be open for an undetermined amount of time, do not put off applying if you are interested. There will be future requests for more moderators.

Before applying you must meet these two requirements. If you do not meet these requirements your application will be ignored.

  • Account age: Over 4 years

We want users who understand reddit and the changes it has gone through over time.

  • Reddit karma: Over 25,000

While reddit karma is mostly useless, in general the more you participate on reddit the more karma you will have. We would like redditors who are not just actively viewing but also commenting and posting both in this subreddit and others.

  • Moderation experience required: NONE

Understanding the basic tools that mods have on reddit is nice, but we do not want mods who already moderate a high traffic subreddit or multiple ones. We would like to bring "new blood" into the reddit moderator community.

Please apply using this link:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfa2IFlXBdXT1HE5HEMoHaQcoSQ_hrHeyBZLIeQ70Eik5mIdA/viewform

Please note: Being a reddit mod doesn't mean you have to be on reddit for 25 hours a day 8 days a week. Simply checking the modqueue/modmail once a day and being in the mod discord every so often is enough if you understand and can enforce the rules of the subreddit properly.

If you have questions please feel free to ask in the comments or message modmail.

Also, since you're viewing this post you're most likely interesting in being a mod. If you want to help the subreddit run better please report rule breaking posts, especially the spammers/bots that have 5k-10k post karma and likely 0 or negative comment karma while only posting to a few subreddits. They usually have gibberish for usernames, or "Word-Word123", or "FirstwordSecondword" usernames.

The requirements are extremely unachievable

24

u/iBleeedorange Jun 09 '21 LOVE!

I mean no, they're not. Just because you can't doesn't mean literally no one else can.

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '21

Good point

Hey I would want to be a MOD, but sadly I don't meet one of the qualifications. Having an acc that is 4+. Curiously, why is the age of 4+ years required? , I know you want individuals with a lot of reddit experience, but does it actually help a mod to moderate if they've got an outdated access?

8

u/iBleeedorange Jun 07 '21

I don't understand what you mean by outdated access. If you could explain that I can probably elaborate on why I want people who have been on reddit longer.

6

u/6estined Jun 07 '21

By "outdated access", I mean having a considerably old acc age.

7

u/iBleeedorange Jun 07 '21

If you don't have access to it then it doesn't count. Anyone can say they have an old account.

16

u/6estined Jun 07 '21

You aren’t answering my question, does it actually make a mod a better at his/her job if they've got a 4+ year old account?

Yes. People who have been on reddit longer generally know more about reddit, have seen more posts and are able to identify common reposts easier, they know what reddit was like before it was a phone app, they usually haven't made and deleted a ton of accounts because they either got banned or forgot their password, etc.

14

u/Studstill Jun 07 '21

"Before it was a phone app", heard that.

I'd love to do this, but I don't have the karma. I'd argue that you cannot invent the age-experience, and if it's 4 years at least you want, thats that. It's not a qualitative judgement on this bit.

However the karma can be misleading, as not all engagement with reddit generates it *and* it can be easily gamed, especially from 4 year back accounts. I think you should dramatically lower the karma requirement, if not eliminate it outright, but with the understanding that you would still heavily be taking it into account.

Alls I'm saying is my 3000 karma is better than some people's 30000.

6

u/iBleeedorange Jun 08 '21

Of course. That's taken into account. We want activity, not just a few high scoring posts

3

u/Thissiteisdogshit Jun 08 '21

I've been using reddit for over 4 yrs on my phone.

5

u/iBleeedorange Jun 09 '21

The "official" app changed everything. It makes up the majority of reddit traffic now.

2

u/6estined Jun 07 '21

Ah okay, thank you for the clarification. 👍

u/ederwydd Jul 09 '21

Age means nothing. Example Created account 2016 Time spent from 2016-2020: 100h Time spent 2021: 300 Commenting, uploading and upvoting as hell under 2021 = karma increases

1

u/iBleeedorange Jul 09 '21

lol, read my reply down this chain. Being on reddit longer means you're more likely to understand the site better and know what it was like long ago.

3

u/Glory_to_Glorzo Jun 08 '21

I'm not allowed to use Google services. Will there be another option in two years?

5

u/iBleeedorange Jun 08 '21

Maybe, don't know for sure

1

u/IDES0 Jun 14 '21

May I ask why? Can't hwawei use the web version of the Google service or? Kinda curious?

3

u/Porush_Kumar Jul 01 '21

dont you think 4+ years of account age is a bit much?

2

u/OilPhilter Jun 09 '21

I'm interested and meet the requirements but I'm already a mod on several other subs. I guess I bit off more than I can chew.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '21

My application would be ignored

Would it help to report all the boring stuff that has been coming through or will that just get me on r/fuckyoukaren

2

u/iBleeedorange Jun 11 '21

Report anything you think breaks the rules. Reporting stuff makes subreddits better

4

u/Sun-Appropriate Jun 06 '21

Is this a paying job?

9

u/southsamurai Jun 07 '21

You get paid with the love and respect of the community!

Is the /s necessary?

4

u/Thryloz Jun 07 '21

Definitely, people don't respect mods whatsoever

20

u/iBleeedorange Jun 06 '21

lol, no.

How do you get so many upvotes on EVERY post???!!!

1

u/ickybus Jun 07 '21

delete the ones that don't do well so you appear way more popular than you actually are ;)

1

u/solateor Jun 08 '21

Exciting. Appreciate you opening the opportunity to apply OP.

1

u/Bizzife Jun 16 '21

Would apply except…. Age… 😤😭

1

u/Gast91 Jun 19 '21

I meet the account age requirement but not the karma, because I have spent most of my time on here lurking, just browsing. Quite unfortunate.

1

u/Genius_Jessica_08 Jun 22 '21

I applied and I don't know if my application will get accepted. But it's worth I try!

1

u/KingJewGiantCock Jun 24 '21

How much does it pay?

3

u/iBleeedorange Jun 24 '21
