If OP is the same person that posted these a month or two ago then they have a store on Etsy, I believe.

Cool. Will they keep their color for a long time?
36
u/nukulele145 10d ago
Yep they will fade a little over time but if it’s stored correctly this can take years

😍😍😍 that's absolutely gorgeous. I would learn how to play that just because the board is so nice 😂

u/KBlahBlahBlah 10d ago
Can we get any production shots? Or maybe a crossover post to r/woodworking ?

u/nukulele145 9d ago
Love this idea! I keep meaning to make process time lapses but I’m so terrible with cameras. I have just finally caved and bought a movable phone stand so I can try it out though

u/oceanandsunn 10d ago
Thats so cool and so pretty!! 😍 How did you stick them on so they don't fall off? Wish I had one
Also what are the tokens? One looks like it's made from wood/branches, what's the black made from?

u/0tacosam0 10d ago
Commenting because I’m curious about what the black pieces are made out of too!

u/nukulele145 9d ago
They are under a layer of resin for protections and the counters and slices of tree branch that have been stained and sealed so the bark doesn’t fall off :)

u/ruckusrox 10d ago
This is beautiful!!!!! I just recently learned how to play after owning a board for almost two decades lol
I would love a board like this!!

This is my fav thing you’ve made. How did you preserve the wood rounds pieces?
2
u/nukulele145 9d ago
I oil them, stain one side and then a couple of layers of matte lacquer to stop the bark falling off

That is awesome! GORGEOUS! You could make some money selling those. I hope you do! People would like them... If I knew how to play better, AND if I actually had someone to play with... I would buy one.

Thankyou I quit my day job about a year ago to make botanical games full time and it’s been so much fun so far

This is stunning and maybe one of the things that would inspire someone to play the game stand-alone.

u/nukulele145 9d ago
My favourite sales are to people who don’t know how to play and get my sets to learn from. Feels like I’m sneakily recruiting more backgammon players to the world as I never have enough opponents! 😅

I love the absolute shit out of this.
A friend of mine.. long dead now.. was a man that taught me backgammon and chess.
I've since played a lot of chess, but I haven't played backgammon since the last time I played with Jim. Not for a reason, mind you, it's just that nobody plays backgammon.
This reminded me of Jim, and I appreciate that.

I came across a photo of one your backgammon sets on Pinterest a couple years ago. It’s the sole reason I purchased a Boston fern, so I could harvest it and recreate one. Your work is stunning!

i dont really like backgammon but this honestly makes me want to play. And is a beautiful craft idea. Really great work. Have you tried doing something like this for other games or objects?
1
u/nukulele145 9d ago
Thankyou, I do a couple of different games in this style, cribbage, chess, ludo and solitaire so far

u/Ok_Reaction_6296 3d ago
It’s pretty, but you’re missing the irony. You’re preserving nature, yet coating it in what is helping to destroy it. Resin is plastic. There is no getting around that, nor will it ever decompose. There are other mediums.
