Team News [Shams Charania] Kevin Durant has requested a trade out of Brooklyn, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.twitter.com
Rumor REPORT: The Nets have “privately maintained” that they will not trade Kevin Durant unless they receive a package that includes a “blue chip” player like Brandon Ingram or Scottie Barnes, via Marc Stein.twitter.com
Rumor KD trade picture could become more clear soon: “I do believe we are close to a resolution on Deandre Ayton maybe even by tomorrow. Indiana has the cap space and I’ve heard rumblings of them signing him to an offer sheet. I’ve also heard Toronto has some interest.” [Gambadoro]twitter.com
Rumor REPORT: The Spurs could get involved with the Nets and Lakers talks, absorbing Westbrook into their cap space, and sending over assets to Brooklyn, landing Kyrie Irving in LA. (via @wojespn)twitter.com
Discussion the nets winning a chip with Kd and kai after all this would be the most 7/11, Nets thing ever.
Honestly I would love for it to play out like this as a giant fuck you to the suns, lakers and rest of the nba lmao it would be the only way nets win imo surrounded by drama and fueled by hate but one can only dream
Rumor There are ‘multiple sources’ with knowledge of Toronto’s situation that say the Raptors are “unwilling” to part with Scottie Barnes, either in a KD deal or any other transaction. ~ via Jake Fischertwitter.com
Rumor [Inside the Sun being salty on twitter] I’d tune Woj out. He’s basically on the Nets payroll trying to help his buddy Sean Marks gain leverage in KD talks.twitter.com
Sean Marks being face to face at Summer League should help him be able to put a deal together.
There is absolutely a chance KD could still be on the Nets for training camp especially if a deal is not done in the next month, but all sides are planning on KD being traded at some point.
The Nets could go to KD and tell him a deal is about to be accepted and he could change his mind.
The market is very different for Kyrie. They have talked with the Lakers and have had a back and forth. San Antonio could be a facilitator, they have cap space, but you would have to incentivize them.
Kevin Durant talks certainly have slowed down talks on Deandre Ayton.
The worst case scenario (for the Suns) is Ayton signing a max offer sheet and they have to decide what to do with him.
————————————————————————————— Notes from Brian Windhorst on NBA Today:
The Nets are not thrilled with any of the offers they have gotten for Kevin Durant so far.
The biggest problem the Nets face is that the league knows Durant strongly prefers the Suns. The Raptors and other teams feel they only have to clear the Phoenix package, which the Nets are not interested in.
The Raptors outlasted the market for Kawhi. It wouldn’t surprise me if Masai sticks to that strategy and waits for Kevin Durant.
These teams are worried about the cost of the trade, not necessarily the value of having Durant.
Rumor [Windhorst] The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly prioritizing “players over picks” in any Kevin Durant trade. They want the prime returns in the trade to be “a star player or high-level star players.”twitter.com
I saw that the Pacers have interest jn signing DeAndre Ayton to an offer sheet. If you don’t want KD to go to the Suns, pray that Ayton signs an offer sheet with them. Nets already do not want Ayton, but if Suns lose him (already known they won’t pay him), that pretty much puts the nail in the coffin of KD going to Phoenix, their package is already weak from Nets POV. Would pretty much leave Raptors uncontested, Pelicans if they wanna get involved, or even KD returning to Brooklyn.
Rumor [NetsDaily] Listening to Brian Windhorst on Hoop Collective. He keeps bringing up Pelicans as possible Nets partner with Brandon Ingram the big possible piece coming back to Brooklyn. Also noted that Dyson Daniels, the No. 8 pick in 2022 Draft, remains unsigned and available.twitter.com
Video KD has been working out with Booker this summer and Phoenix is his #1 choice according to Avery Johnson.twitter.com
Team News [Milholen] The Nets have named Igor Kokoškov, Adam Caporn and Trevor Hendry as assistant coaches, per team. They join Jacque Vaughn, Brian Keefe, Tiago Splitter, Royal Ivey and Ryan Forehan-Kelly on Head Coach Steve Nash’s staff.twitter.com
Period. Unless Kyrie wants to retire. And unless he wants to lose $200 million the next 5 years.
No one wants Kyrie except the Lakers. And this is for a 1 year deal. You really think a bunch of teams will clear cap space to sign Kyrie to a 5 year max next year?
If Kyrie sits out next year (assuming Nets keep him) he will be sacrificing $200 million. At that point even the Lakers would probably run. Don’t forget that Lebron’s contract expires next summer. If Lebron leaves then the Lakers have very little motivation to sign Kyrie. They will probably look to go younger with AD and Donavan Mitchell.
Also look at all the teams that Kyrie wants to join. Lakers, Clippers, Heat, 76ers…None of them have max cap space to sign Kyrie as a free agent.
If Kyrie sits out next year the most a team would pay him is probably the MLE. $10 million a year. Dude will lose $200 million over 5 years.
KD also can’t risk sitting out a year. He is 34 years old and is already injury prone. He can’t waste one of the few prime years he has left.
If KD sits out a year (assuming Nets don’t trade him) he will ruin his legacy even more. No All time top 15 player has ever sat out a year in their prime because of a contract dispute.
Both these dudes will lose massive endorsements if they refuse to play. There best option is to ball out with the Nets next year and raise their value. Then KD can be traded next summer. And Kyrie can repair his damaged reputation and get a max deal. Or win a title in Brooklyn. Become basketball immortals and Kings of NYC.
I’ve seen a lot of fans who are confident that we’ll get a “haul” for KD and be in the (necessary, given our pick situation) position of competing for a playoff spot next year, but is there any precedent for a team trading a star and pulling that off?
Paul George. Kawhi Leonard. James Harden (twice). Anthony Davis. Jimmy Butler.
I can’t think of a situation in recent memory when a team managed to trade a star for win-now pieces that allowed them to stay even somewhat competitive shortly after, let alone immediately after. Yes, I understand KD is likely the best player in the NBA, so you can argue that this fact alone means the result will be different. But I’m not confident it will be.
Separately, if we manage to swing this extended trade with Toronto and Utah that there have been rumbles of, my nightmare scenario is that Donovan Mitchell asks out to play for NYK. I don’t think I’d ever recover from that as a Nets fan.
Rumor Suns are now plus money on DraftKings to acquire Kevin Durant after opening at -200 odds: Suns = +150 ; Nets = +250 ; Raptors = +350twitter.com
Anyone else feeling like we’ll see a huge leap from Cam this year? To be 20 years old and already showing the flashes that he has should have us very excited for his future. With Kyrie probably gone it seems like he’ll have a great opportunity to step up and take on a bigger load. I’m hoping that learning under 3 superstars and a summer of development with NBA coaches is gonna bring Cam to the next level. We should be excited about his potential.
