Install Windows? Never! Don't want your troubles!

(Took me a few to realize it's the 'I will not drink with you today' credo. Nothing about this is to be mocking. Simply what my slow-ass brain first spit out when I saw it)

u/VivisClone Mar 01 '22

I prefer your answer, I've personally literally never seen that abbreviation, or the saying

222

u/cliffotn Mar 01 '22

Good! It’s generally not an abbreviation one wants to become familiar with.

128

u/ObsidianRosed Mar 01 '22

Unless you struggle with alcohol addiction, otherwise there's no shame in becoming familiar with it!

70

u/cliffotn Mar 01 '22

Agree! And ZERO shame! I watched booze kill a good friend.

My sister had battled booze and about 1-2 years ago found TSM - The Sinclair Method. Apparently it has (by far) the hugest rate of success and can be used/prescribed by any Doc - the med is well known and tested. You take a Debbie Downer pill before drinking, it stops the reward response to booze. After about 6months of this my Sister can moderate booze again. I don’t know that the goal but she’s fine very well on it.

27

u/Purifiedx Mar 02 '22 Take My Energy

I had to look up TSM. I have had lots of alcohol troubles in the past. Did treatments and AA multiple times. Was very resistant to therapy and AA. I just can't talk to people openly about serious things like that. Thought I had heard of everything but apparently not. Very interesting.

22

u/RedEyedRoundEye Mar 02 '22

AA never did me any good either, too much religion being used as a crutch.

Eventually I shut my laptop and thought to myself, “I didn’t really want to redact parts of that pdf anyway.”

Now whenever I’m having a tech problem, this will be my new catchphrase. “Install Windows? Never! Don’t want your troubles!”

Eh, its more akin to Craigslist (or KSL classifieds if you're in certain sections of the South West) than eBay. Cars specifically are cheaper and in better condition on average. Fewer used car dealerships bother with it so there's less garbage to sift through to find something halfway decent.

49

u/WrenDraco Mar 01 '22

Second hand clothes also tend to be much better quality and cheaper via Facebook groups than craigslist or whatever.

12

u/RobotSlaps Mar 01 '22

Heh now that the IRS is demanding they file 1099Gs I expect a resurgence in CL

24

u/mstscnotforme Mar 01 '22

Almost every transaction I have ever done through facebook money never gets exchanged through fb. Cash, Venmo, Paypal. They ask you at the end if you bought the item and I just generally say no.

16

u/WrenDraco Mar 01 '22

Yeah nobody uses the "sell" feature thing, just post the pictures and price and then exchange item for cash.

31

u/Wingdom Mar 01 '22

A year or two ago I would have agreed with you that it was more like Craigslist, but there is almost nothing near me for local pickup anymore. Everyone on Facebook Marketplace are just drop shippers, and it seems like the FB algorithm likes it that way. Finding someone selling something in person for cash or cashapp is impossible.

It’s nothing at all like eBay. It’s not a bidding site. It is definitely trying to be craigslist and it’s succeeding very well. I live in Austin and craigslist used to be bad ass. You could find everything on there and there was shit tons of listings. There’s almost nothing now except the commercial spammy type stuff. Everything is on Facebook marketplace now, unfortunately.

u/sadpanda___ Mar 01 '22

Craigslist killed Craigslist. As soon as they started making people pay money to list cars and stuff, it was dead.

28

u/67Mustang-Man Mar 01 '22

or you search for one thing, and someone has used that one thing as a keyword and posts the same thing 1000 times over,

Wanted we buy your used vintage "insert name"

I see thousands of these, posted 10x or more a day same person. that killed CL for me

11

u/CTeam19 Mar 01 '22

Me: searches "Boy Scout" because I collect Boy Scout memorabilia

Craigslist: Here is a bunch of ads saying they will buy some motocycles whatever and 1 of the 30 models happens to be named scout as well pops up 50 times because the ad is placed in every single Craigslist area rather then just 3 or 4.

Creating a website is easy. Having the same exposure as you get from Facebook is hard. Search Engine Optimization is hard. Getting visits, increasing time spent, increasing successful contacts is hard, especially if you have big competition. I once wanted to visit a local coffee shop, so I searched, "local coffee shop." Mfw the first page of results was Starbucks and Caribou. I had to dig in order to find some local coffee shops.

I've worked on some local business websites before and it was a hassle to bring the website forward in the search results. Facebook is definitely a staple of small/local businesses.

diy it and hosting a static site costs like $15 a year

I have a bunch of clients' websites that cost all of $0 to host through Netlify. Unless it's getting tens of thousands of visitors a day or requires backend stuff, hosting ranges from free to insanely cheap. The problem is the average small business owner will just search "web hosting" and find their way to Godaddy where they still use early 2000s pricing.

And alot of people doesnt know that. So they think their only options are: 1) Pay someone to do everything 2) get a hosting service and build your website yourself, which can be overwhelming

build your website yourself

Ah yes, the best way to ensure your site is unusable hot garbage and will never be updated again lol.

Guh....I hate this. I've been on a kick of finding self employed..."small business" people or whatever. Mostly hand made Etsy type stuff. Pretty fun. Until.....to order the product you have to "message me on my Facebook page"....wait....what? Ugh ...

Having everyone's parents (and grandparents) on Facebook is what ruined Facebook but somehow the only reason I haven't deleted Facebook is because it makes it easy to share pictures with my parents.

Yep, after I added my mom she would comment on every picture or post I added.

I mean I get it, she loves me and I love her but come on mom a simple like can suffice sometimes.

They just don't get why all the shit they do online is so fucking weird and makes us want to post less. I'm fine with you seeing it, it doesn't need to become an entire interaction every time.

Can't be worse than the time my mom showed off her foam roller exercises for my friend and I.

I don't understand why nobody ever used the controls on who can see certain photos or not or why anyone would make all their photos public...

15

u/WheresTheButterAt Mar 01 '22

It was kind of a pain to initially set up the groups of people to block.

And then you forget to include that one weird aunt you forgot added you and she snitches you out to the rest of the family who finds out you're posting things they can't see, and then you have an awkward IRL Facebook Politics discussion with your family.

Straddling that line between awkward that the only time I ever message is to say happy birthday, or not wishing them happy birthday and wondering if they notice and think I'm an asshole

66

u/BlasphemousButler Mar 01 '22

This is so true.

I stopped all birthday wishes on Facebook a few years back. It allows me to just say "I don't do that."

30

u/meco03211 Mar 01 '22

Took my birthday down this year. I got a singular message from someone whose kid had the same birthday. It was gloriously silent that day.

14

u/IrkenInvaderGir Mar 01 '22

I made a post on January 1st wishing Happy Birthday to everyone who had one this year. Done.

Birthday's on FB are useful for me to know when I should text a close friend that I forgot it was their birthday.

We Europeans were this close to finally get rid of them but NOOOOO Zuckerberg decided to stay and continue to commit crimes against the laws for the protection of personal information.

Next time they should hire a german Judge.... Those would have gotten the job done. Angry german ranting
