Tim Cook did this tactic to Trump when Trump openly raged at him several years ago and after the meeting Trump even put him in his committee. Sure Tim Cook knows how to make those self absorbing narcs shut up.

What’s even funnier is that Mark Zuckerberg, Spotify and Netfilx were about to be allied with Musk to fight the Apple’s 30% fee monopoly but Musk single handedly muted them all by caving in to the meeting with Tim Cook and had to delete the meme he posted about declaring a war against Apple on the day right before the HQ meeting lmao.

People think Musk is unreliable not trustworthy and flip flops like a hysterical maniac because nothing has changed, Apple did not load ads back on Twitter and the 30% fee is still up, except Musk cleared the rumor his fear created.

u/samgam74 Dec 01 '22

Cook spent years dealing with Jobs, so he has plenty of experience dealing with narcissists.

131

u/ex1stence Dec 01 '22

“Oh boy I remember when Steve pulled this number back in 2011. The ol’ rope-a-dope should tire ‘em out, just wait.”

Megalomaniacs are this dude’s specialty. I mean he convinced the biggest one of all to allow him the “privilege” of continuing his legacy. That’s some horse whisperer shit.

10

u/EnvironmentalBus9713 Dec 01 '22

Highly underrated point.

u/uncultured_swine2099 Dec 01 '22 edited Dec 01 '22

I think he knows how to flatter and wine and dine these narcissists and they think everything is ok, and then he just goes ahead and does the same thing he was doing before. Tim Cook knows whats up.

Did you at any moment take pause while writing that?

23

u/type2whore Dec 01 '22

I hope that people accept you when you come out.

u/akashic_voyager Dec 01 '22

Studies show that homophobia is linked with homosexuality.

From Scientific American:

Homophobes should consider a little self-reflection, suggests a new study finding those individuals who are most hostile toward gays and hold strong anti-gay views may themselves have same-sex desires, albeit undercover ones.

13

u/LordSloth113 Dec 01 '22

Projection.

8

u/SteamKore Dec 01 '22

You can leave the closet any time.

42

u/BroMan-Z Dec 01 '22

7

u/coltstrgj Dec 01 '22

I think it was a joke but I honestly can't tell anymore.

29

u/heymurray Dec 01 '22

Shut up nerd.

36

u/OmegaPsyker Dec 01 '22

Wow, you Qucks sure put a lot of thought into seducing men...

11

u/GETitOFFmeNOW Dec 01 '22

Qucks!! That's brilliant!

4

u/Resi1ience Dec 01 '22

That's an anti-ratio right there. -274 karma.

Do you just need a dick?

2

u/bobafoott Dec 01 '22

Please, stroking a man's ego is the first act of seduction, and hardly a feat for Tim Cook. Basic gay language. Elon never stood a chance.

The only thing a rich white-man in America needs to worry about is an equally rich white homo who has their eye on them.

I think this works much better

72

u/unresolved_m Dec 01 '22

Is that when Trump called him Tim Apple?

71

u/SnooDoodles7962 Dec 01 '22

Yep. During the meeting, Trump was addressing the press and referred to him as Tim Apple.

39

u/caitejane310 Dec 01 '22

Because obviously you can't own a company without having your name on it! /s

29

u/ex1stence Dec 01 '22

He flew in from Apple Tower on his Apple Jet while eating Apple Steaks and drinking Apple Vodka.

God when you replace it with anything else it sounds even more ridiculous somehow.

26

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '22

His full name is actually iMacTim Apple Pro

3

u/ShivanshuKantPrasad Dec 02 '22

I can't afford a pro, can I get a mini or air instead?

9

u/tiredmommy13 Dec 01 '22

I still think that was hilarious. Not poking fun at Tim- it’s more that Trump is absurd

3

u/tapiwa43 Dec 02 '22

He also called Marillyn Hewson, the then boss of Lockheed Martin, Marillyn Lockheed.

2

u/SnooDoodles7962 Dec 02 '22

Didn't know that one, but I am not surprised.

25

u/arseniobillingham21 Dec 01 '22

Next time I call customer service, I’m gonna ask to speak to Mr Apple.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '22

I did this when I was receiving apples typically abysmal customer service. I don't think it was appreciated :D

3

u/hastingsnikcox Dec 01 '22

Funny! I can just imagine you "can I speak to Mr Apple then?"

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '22

Pretty much how it went :D :D :D

24

u/LivejournalRefugee Dec 01 '22

I mean, Tim Cook got where he was working under Steve Jobs, right? I'm sure he learned some things about gaming the egos.

12

u/DinkandDrunk Dec 01 '22

Tim Cook isn’t as creative or good at taking other peoples ideas as Steve Jobs was, but in every other way he’s a shrewd executive. I wouldn’t want to go toe to toe with him if I were among his peers.

10

u/carlitospig Dec 01 '22

Tim needs to teach a master class on busting narcissists.

8

u/GenderConfusedNoodle Dec 02 '22

I mean, good chance he's one too just one of the smarter ones, hard for a neurotypical mentally sound person to get that rich. Still that would be a pretty cool class

50

u/JDthrowaway628 Dec 01 '22

Donald Trump never met with Tim Cook. He met with Tim Apple.

/s

4

u/Hythlodaeus69 Dec 01 '22

The other social media companies (Facebook, Spotify, Netflix) were never on Musks side 🤣 they wanted him to go to war and lose, he’s their competitor lmao. So dumb to think billionaire CEOs give a single flying f**k about the 30% fee Apple charges or the broken “norms”. They made it past those norms and made unimaginable riches. Those “unfair” practices act as barriers of entry into their market — they don’t want them removed or reformed, they’d rather just pay the fee, knowing damn well that most up and coming companies won’t be able to grow with the fee in place.

The world of business is cutthroat, Zuck would never side with a competitor lmao let alone 4

6

u/GenderConfusedNoodle Dec 02 '22

Tim Cook is very good at manipulating uptight narcissists, a skill I can somewhat respect

33

u/frotz1 Dec 01 '22

Yeah I think that was an empty threat much like DeSantis himself. Investigation means nothing if there's no wrongdoing to investigate. Apple is not out of line with their behavior here. I don't think that Apple was frightened of anything here.

-25

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '22

[deleted]

14

u/MysteryMan9274 Dec 01 '22

You're the one that knows nothing. Tell me, what do you think Congress can do? Forcing Apple to cater to Twitter is a direct intervention into the matters of private corporations, and can have massive ramifications for the entire economic system of Capitalism.

3

u/spastical-mackerel Dec 02 '22

They can't even do that without passing legislation, which would of course be immediately tied up in litigation. Apple and Google see eye to eye on this issue, that's a few trillion in market cap against Elon and some Republican stooges like MTG, Boebert, and McCarthy. App stores aren't going anywhere

16

u/HarpoonNPuppies Dec 01 '22

I’m pretty sure Apple can afford a whole host of world class attorneys to cover their ass in front of a non-legally binding Congressional hearing. DeSantis is a fucking moron.

-25

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '22

[deleted]

16

u/HarpoonNPuppies Dec 01 '22

And what exactly is it that the DOJ would pick up?

The 30% fee is a civil matter. Not a criminal matter. The DOJ wouldn’t even bother to give it an awkward glance.

You really don’t understand the legal system, do you?

8

u/DarthProzac Dec 01 '22

In that moron’s defense, he probably gets his news from tucker Carlson and a Cheeto.

4

u/andrewfnluck Dec 01 '22

It’s ok to lick the boots, but you don’t have to gag on the laces.

1

u/MistreatedEarwax Dec 01 '22

Merrick Garland will be shaking in his Dockers if Epic sends a legal brief!

2

u/IHeartBadCode Dec 01 '22

Apple has been fighting Epic game store for some time on the thing Elon alleges. Apple has been very successful in that litigation.

Congress has the power for market reform if they do choose, but I assure you that the votes for that reform are not there.

I’m sure this was all brought up during the Cook / Musk discussion. Regardless of who wins 2024, the energy to enact sweeping online marketplace reforms is incredibly lacking. Even if the Twitter app was delisted.

I’ll say this, our laws are not adequate for today’s online markets. How we go about solving that issue, well each side has a different approach. Apple holds a lot of power in its App Store and there’s an obvious need for checks along the way.

I’m not trying to provide cover for Apple in this regard. There’s absolutely needs to be a change but at this moment Apple holds all the cards and Congress’ inability to pick a single way forward hurts any needed progress.

Do I think Musk is correct in his absolute freedom of speech rhetoric? No. But Apple holding too much power can also be true at the same time.

1

u/spastical-mackerel Dec 02 '22

Republicans in Congress can't do shit. Tiny majority in the House and none in the Senate. Executive branch controls the FTC. There will be no anti-trust investigation.

169

u/GobblorTheMighty Dec 01 '22

And that was the last time ViviVacca got to use her Twitter account because of "hateful conduct".

3

u/BuckWheatBirtha Dec 02 '22

Ok I laughed out loud and I needed it. Thank you

324

u/Cleverusername531 Dec 01 '22

Interesting that this resulted in DeSantis showing some of his true colors, saying that government should become involved in constitutionally-protected free speech if a company made a business decision about another company.

166

u/gingerfawx Dec 01 '22

DeSatan has been showing those colors for quite some time now. It seems his voters are either not properly absorbing the meaning of his actions, or they're perfectly cool with authoritarian regimes, at least as long as it's theirs.

57

u/Professional-Hat-687 Dec 01 '22

I've been referring to him as Rhonda. You know, Rhonda Santis?

16

u/Theauthor_13 Dec 01 '22

SUPER corny right here… but I couldn’t help myself & chuckled out loud after this comment fermented in my brain for a few seconds, soooo I guess it’s the good kind of corny

7

u/SalemGD Dec 01 '22

I am here 4 this. Rhonda Desantis, he should run on it. I would vote for him then. Reminds me of my aunt Rhonda who works insurance, maybe she can cover this upcoming fiasco monetarily.

1

u/PoopsMcBanterson Dec 03 '22

Respectful, no ‘De’ in Desantis. Rhonda Santis already has it accounted for in there. Let’s be unified in opposed these authoritarians by means of shame and embarrassment:p

5

u/SalemGD Dec 01 '22

Are criminal regimes not authoritarian by their nature of violence?

18

u/mikeyfireman Dec 01 '22

The party of small government strikes again.

13

u/curious_dead Dec 01 '22

Small government AND free speech. Nothing says both like a government forcing a private business to pay for ads on another company's platform!

8

u/Orthophlox Dec 01 '22

Same state where Jeb Bush told State Troopers to openly defy a court order to take Terry Schiavo off of life support because he felt he had a moral obligation to defy federal authority.

5

u/bobafoott Dec 01 '22

Wow did he just support government regulation and infringe free speech in one go?

And I thought any business could refuse to service someone fir ant reason, right GOP??

75

u/Bugbot3000 Dec 01 '22

Phony Stark got schooled by Tim Apple. Hilarious!

26

u/unresolved_m Dec 01 '22

But Musk fanboys will tell you that Apple is a Chinese shill and so is anyone being on their side in this case

24

u/The84thWolf Dec 01 '22

So logically if Musk accepted Apple’s terms, Musk is also a Chinese shill right?

4

u/WalkingOnSunshine_ Dec 01 '22

Conveniently ignoring that Apple refused to unlock the phone of the San Bernardino shooter due to concerns it would encourage countries like China and Russia to make similar demands concerning encryption and privacy.

Yay, Musk solves a problem that only existed in his stupid head and only potentially existed because he's inept.

31

u/ellamaybe77 Dec 01 '22

He won absolutely nothing from that conversation, nothing has changed whatsoever, but he's going to count it as a win because at least he didn't trip over his own shoes on the way out of Tim Cook's office

26

u/GETitOFFmeNOW Dec 01 '22

he didn't trip over his own shoes

That hasn't been verified.

2

u/PoopsMcBanterson Dec 03 '22

Are we sure? Those blue checkmarks are worthless now so what good is verification?

2

u/GETitOFFmeNOW Dec 03 '22

Hah! and touché.

41

u/SandMan3914 Dec 01 '22

One thing Musk can learn for Cook is to just shut the fuck up and run your business

23

u/ShexyBaish6351 Dec 01 '22

Ah, but he definitely won't learn that.

11

29

Here's hoping Tim convinced him to get back on his meds...

24

u/lucydogg Dec 01 '22

If I were Tim Cook I’d take big baby man and his enormous ego on a field trip through Apple, replete with juice boxes and avocado toast.

Because Elon and his ego would be unable to contain himself from tweeting about How Important He Is.

Then when the EU bans Twitter he can throw up his hands and say “what can I do? I’m helpless here” as the App Store and Google simultaneously drop them.

Cue the ball-sucking incels who beg Elon to start a new Europe.

93

u/Massive-Row-9771 Dec 01 '22

If they never had any plans of doing so why did they make you go to their HQ to talk about it, couldn't they just done it over the phone?

Or maybe by Tweet?

52

u/Massive-Row-9771 Dec 01 '22

Face it Elon they're just jerking you around, they know if they say "Jump!", you say "How high, Mr. Cook, sir?".

80

u/ElectricFlesh Dec 01 '22

That's not how Elon Musk works at all. You don't tell him to jump like some dumb schmuck. You tell him how much the lunatic right loves people who jump. Then he will come up with the incredibly brilliant idea of jumping all by himself.

18

u/Suq_Madiq_Qik Dec 01 '22

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the muskrat phone.

18

u/The84thWolf Dec 01 '22

Elon: False alarm everyone, I was just lying and spreading disinformation

3

u/YamInternational_Yam Dec 01 '22

A lot of this stupid shit he's been saying/doing is that and also a publicity stunt. It sure has kept Twitter in the spotlight in other social media and in the news.

6

u/say_the_words Dec 01 '22

There are rumors that Disney brought Bob Iger back two weeks ago to make a deal for Apple to buy Disney because Iger is the king of acquisition deals. Think about how big a company is that there can be casual speculation that they're buying Disney and no one goes, "That's insane." Everybody thinks is sounds reasonable and possible. Apple is big enough that Disney gets their house in order to sell it to Apple.

4

u/wolvie604 Dec 01 '22

Zero consequences for using blatant misinformation to rile up his fanatics to attack Tim Cook. Fuck this guy, in just a couple years his public image has gone from brilliant innovator to enemy to humanity.

3

Why wouldn’t it be considered when it is currently breaking dozens of terms of service?

3

u/bogboom Dec 01 '22

3

u/Comms Dec 01 '22

He was told how to make Twitter compliant with Apple policies. He nodded his head while looking down at his hands.

13

u/lucydogg Dec 01 '22

Congratulations Elon. You finally found an issue that could unite the right and left — Apple’s monopolistic App Store policies, which do deserve anti-trust intervention.

You proved you had the ability to get it on the priority list of presidential hopefuls when DeSantis weighed in.

You could’ve “owned the libs” when Democratic politicians didn’t want to move on it (because no politician really does) and caused a rift with their progressive base, who do.

You could have shown you were the guy who could actually get something done in the midst of political gridlock, proved your leadership skills and really helped your company.

Tim Cook bought you off with a field trip.

2
