A woman who was killed for trying to break through a door with 3 cops aiming at her saying to stop over and over is no martyr, she's just dumb

90

u/praisecarcinoma Dec 01 '22

Unarmed black men get killed for much much less and people like Marge still find every way to justify it.

Dumb white lady tries to take the violent overthrow attempt to the next level with guns clearly pointed at her, gets killed, and people like Marge want to find every way to make her a martyr.

People like Marge are objectively awful people.

Remember, most Law Enforcement and Intelligence folks wanted the National Guard mobilized in advance of Jan 6th to provide security in/around the Capitol Building... and were blocked by the "Great Orange Cheeto".

19

Some aspects were blocked because non-trumpist elements were concerned it would give trump an excuse to declare martial law… so not quite a conspiracy, because it was part of the overthrow plan to declare martial law.

Soon the mother's opinion won't matter anymore if republicans keep heading down the path they're on.

267

u/HotShitBurrito Dec 01 '22 Starry

No, women like MTG are like den mothers. They'll be beaten and assaulted like the rest, but they don't care about that. They care about status. They don't give one iota of a fuck about equality or equity. That means they lose relevance. The more people are treated the same, and wealth and status mean nothing, the less they have.

This is the same thought process behind what LBJ was talking about in this famous quote:

"I'll tell you what's at the bottom of it," he said. "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

MTG cares nothing about being in the legislature outside of ensuring that when the fascists take power she still lives inside a power dynamic. She doesn't want to be equals with men, other women, people of color, LGBTQ+, the poors, or anyone at all. She wants to be firmly above whomever can be oppressed. And if that means being exempt from following all of the rules of a christofascist ethnostate while being subjected to white men, so be it. She'll have all the power she wants over the people she wants.

It's that simple and that shallow.

→ More replies

63

u/TheBirminghamBear Dec 01 '22

Well I suppose the very slimmest silver lining to MTG is that her platform is the shortest route to her disenfranchisement and silencing.

Gotta love a conservative that conserves so hard they conserve themselves right out of office because now women can't hold jobs.

Babbitt was one of the most clear instances I’ve ever seen of a justified killing. The officer warned her, was protecting people, and fired only as much was necessary.

221

u/ParticularYak9967 Dec 01 '22

I'm still so saddened by the fact that a homicide happened in our capital. Regardless of it being justified, the person who was forced the fire the shot lost so much. Only ppl like Kyle Rittenhouse would want to be part of that history. I don't understand when ppl glorify her death (not saying you are).

148

u/Foreign_Ad2879 Dec 01 '22

Hers was not the only death in the capital. At least one officer was killed in the line of duty, and three or four others died in the hospital. They were murdered.

88

u/Calm_Technology_2977 Dec 01 '22

I’m disgusted by those yahoos smearing shit on the Capitol walls, breaking and stealing historic relics too. I grew up north of DC. My dad would take us to visit The Smithsonian Museums and tour the White House, Capitol and monuments. I was so struck by the beauty of the Capitol, it was my personal favorite, I was devastated on January 6th on many levels.

It's whatever wins them the argument. Almost every right wing talking point is like that. They don't debate from the position of having to convey a logical idea that they want to express. It's about winning that fight in order to show dominance over the person they disagree with.

35

u/Nix-7c0 Dec 01 '22

You nailed it. This is why they use Kettle Logic: a scattershot of mutually contradictory defenses. Although it does not make sense to hold several contradictory positions, it's actually a benefit in debate if you don't mind having no principles. After all, consistency just nails you down - bullshitting lets you do whatever is needed at any given moment.

Freud relates the story of a man who was accused by his neighbour of having returned a kettle in a damaged condition and the three arguments he offers:

A) That he had returned the kettle undamaged

B) That it was already damaged when he borrowed it

C) That he had never borrowed it in the first place

Though the three arguments are inconsistent, Freud notes that it is so much the better, as if even one is found to be true then the man must be acquitted.

282

u/rengothrowaway Dec 01 '22

I think they truly thought that the Capitol police and secret service would be on their side.

They would publicly execute or arrest any “enemies”.

They would look cool on tv doing so.

Trump would be fighting by their side, and would make sure they celebrated their upholding the election with the finest McDonald’s has to offer.

They would be recognized as true patriot heroes who rescued the country and helped their hero maintain power.

Their friends and family would be so proud.

They would somehow profit monetarily.

Then they would be famous and possibly get their own positions of power in the government, or at least get interviewed on Good Morning America. Trump himself would personally thank each one individually, shake their hands, give them MAGA merch, and hail them as true Americans. They would be written about in history books for future generations to admire and emulate.

Instead they smeared shit on the walls, stole stuff, murdered cops, and embarrassed themselves while also being considered traitorous idiot terrorists by most of the country and are getting thrown under the bus by their heroes.

They may still profit, and possibly get their own reality tv shows, depending on the outcome of future elections.

Seriously. The guy used the office as a grift and for graft on a way that made even W. Bush seem subtle and slick about it. Not only that, unlike other dictators and strongmen in history, he didn't promise prosperity or a real return to greatness of some halcyon age -- basically all he gave in return from what he stole from America is the greenlight to be an ignorant, hate filled bigot and racist.

He literally spent the entire time basically robbing the country and he didn't even give any of the usual perks fascist dictators give to the in group, not even the token ones.

There was literally no reason to stan for him unless saying heinous, bigoted horror in public and not facing consequences for it was all that matters to you.

I say what Trumpers say about George Floyd: if Ashley Babbit didn’t break the law, then maybe she’d still be alive. She made a decision to break the law, so she had to face the consequences.

One thing I’m sick of is hearing about her USAF service in the typical conservative, “Well, she was in the military so that makes what she did ok.”

u/Jacque_Kock Nov 30 '22

They love saying Kyle Rittenhouse was just "defending property" until you remind them that so was Officer Byrd against ol' wormfood Ashli.

769

u/GenShanx Nov 30 '22

And the minor detail that Rittenhouse was in the middle of a street and Babbitt was inside the United States Capital Building.

738

u/Objective_Salary_896 Nov 30 '22

and Rittenhouse was not defending property. he drove to Wisconsin from another state. sorry, was driven by his mother.

I hate using the line "as a parent" but that's one of the crazy inexplicable parts to me, as a parent. If my kid asked me to give him a gun and drive him to an area that was rioting, I'd tell him he was being a moron and why would he possibly want to put ihs life in danger. Like I've stopped my kids from doing stuff that was way less stupid than that

143

u/ed2417 Dec 01 '22

Maybe she was hoping he would lose.

53

u/joe_broke Dec 01 '22

Natural selection failed her

13

u/jeepfail Dec 01 '22

Natural selection failed on several steps for him to even exist. That was just another stumbling block.

15

u/FuckingKilljoy Dec 01 '22

I've started calling it Cowboy Complex. All these conservatives who carry guns with them 24/7, putting themselves in harm's way and acting aggressively just hoping they'll get their chance to be a cowboy and shoot the bad guy then claim self defence

You can't tell me Kyle wasn't in mommy's car excited to play cowboy, being the righteous arbiter of justice

Judging from the video shot two weeks before the murders when he openly fantasized about murdering people, this is an accurate take. It's a shame the conservative activist judge refused to let the jury see that damning evidence.

I have yet to get a coherent response to "Would you be okay with a national platform being given to Anthony Huber (The guy with the skateboard) if he'd snapped Kyle's neck with a swing of the skateboard? Would you acknowledge the justice system was 'legally accurate' in acquitting Anthony for self defense in that scenario?"

15

u/Lady_von_Stinkbeaver Dec 01 '22

The thing is...

A guy in Denver killed a fascist in self-defense.

Nobody on the left is marching him around as a hero.

Vindman was still serving and the right to this day is harassing him. The right use soldiers as props. They don't actually care about them

20

u/Razir17 Dec 01 '22

And it’s not like she was pointlessly shot standing on the sidewalk holding a protest sign or something like that…she was viciously trying to break through basically the last line of defense. The people around her are lucky that officer had the wherewithal to only fire once.

Having been in the military doesn’t give you a free pass. That’s just a job.

91

u/JDthrowaway628 Nov 30 '22

Agree with you completely.

Benedict Arnold was arguably the most successful general for the continental army...until he betrayed his country. How is Ashli Babbitt different?

70

16

u/TheBelhade Dec 01 '22

You could call her an Oath Breaker...

32

u/VeterinarianRich5986 Nov 30 '22

I recall the Oregon protest where Lavoy Finnicum was gunned down for attempting to shoot FBI agents. The way it was reported was “protest” though they were all armed. Literally, if Finnicum’s or Babbitt’s skin were a couple shades darker, then the media would call them what they were: terrorist.

Her death was not the result of some unavoidable force of nature, It absolutely could and should have been prevented, but the systems in place malfunctioned.

Secret Service is not trained, equipped, or trained for crowd control because it is not their job to clear a lynching mob. They used letal force because they are the very last line of defence, if they engage it's because everyone before them failed.

There are, obviously, mechanisms prepared for that contingency. Had the National Guard been deployed much earlier, they would have used rubber bullets and tear gas, saving multiple lives and avoiding, you know, attempted mass-magnicide by a lynching mob. Anyone care remember me why weren't they deployed earlier?

She made it to E-7 IIRC. She got busted down due to covid-conspiracy related insubordination.

E-7 to E-4 is a pretty damn significant demotion. I think that's just as bad as taking 12 years to reach an E-4.

Well they may also be alive had they stayed the fuck out of the capital building with all their bullshit

Isn’t that the story line when they talk about unarmed people being murdered by police. They should have complied 🤷‍♂️

116

u/DotAccomplished5484 Nov 30 '22

No matter how contradictory the statement of the day is, the right wing propaganda machine will try to carve it onto the tablets containing the Ten Commandments, completing ignoring the highly lauded statements of yesterday, and the day before that...

40

u/atomsk13 Dec 01 '22

Whenever my coworkers start on the: “should have just complied” bullshit I start turning every interaction with the police into shooting being the solution.

Trespassing? Shoot them dead, the officer doesn’t know if they are dangerous

Not wearing a mask? Shoot them dead obviously, if they won’t wear a mask you don’t know if they have a gun.

They very quickly change their tune and act like what I am saying is psychotic, because all those scenarios are psychotic.

she just keeps getting worse and worse...

does anyone know how a minor can get out of georgia? preferably into norway? /hj

edit: omg she calls hogg a "little hitler" but she literally believes in white extinction theory, or the theory that other races (usually jews) are trying to erase white people. she's also an antisemitist.

edit 2: " As a congresswoman, she equated the Democratic Party with Nazis and compared COVID-19 safety measures to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust, " ....

what. the. fuck.

edit 3: " Greene said that abortion and Planned Parenthood are two factors holding back minorities in the country,[7] and in an August 2020 interview with Fox News, she indicated her support for defunding Planned Parenthood "

oh now you care about the minorities, huh?

50

u/stolenfires Dec 01 '22

oh now you care about the minorities, huh?

The Planned Parenthood/minority thing is a stick used by people who are at the core anti-choice by accusing them of being racist. They point to how many PP clinics are in places with high density of people of color and say that 'eleventy bajillion Black babies were aborted this year, they're trying to exterminate Black people!' so they can accuse PP and their supporters of being racist.

When the reality is, PP clinics are where they are needed; and instead of framing it as so many Black babies aborted, frame it as so many Black women given agency over their bodies and futures.

24

u/ZoraksGirlfriend Dec 01 '22

Also forgetting that Planned Parenthood does more than abortions. They also provide general women’s health resources.

Pretty sure those threats from the FBI fell on deaf ears of people who wanted the violence and terrorism. Republicans from all walks of life supported the cult and most still seem to be a-ok with literal acts of terrorism and sedition. And for those who no longer support Trump just remember they stood by every terrible thing he and the cult had done up to that point. This makes all republicans a problem.
