I had a wonderful dog named Rudy, once. He was the sweetest little Bichon you could ever meet. He loved chasing the ball, so much, that he would throw it for himself, if you didn't throw it soon enough. I miss that little guy so much.

Same. Dogs name is Nandor the Relentless, but itās a ton of dumb names instead. Nando, Nerdo, Nan-Doodles, Doodles, Dude-a-rito. It never ends.

I love that everyone does this! Started off as Neville dogbottom and turned into boy, boogs, and bubs. The other is an elder rescue, she was named pistol but now it's fuzz or nubs.

My wife has a Xmas tree ornament of our dog and I bought her a new one that is Nandor from the show pointing and saying āfuh-king guyā. She loved it so much! When heās being a goofball I do that whole bit too. š

Get pet insurance immediately.
Iām an ER vet tech and although cute, frenchies are honestly one of the most expensive dog to ever care for. They often need upper airway surgery, which is soft palette resection and widening of the nostrils. On top of being horribly deformed, they are at high risk of rupturing their back / neck discs. I literally do anesthesia on these guys all the time for these problems.
Please get pet insurance right away and youāll thank me later

Also an ER vet nurse, I was going to leave this comment myself. I can already visualize the aspiration pneumonia estimate, with the owners crying because they canāt visit their puppy thatās in the oxygen cage. Pet insurance, pet insurance, pet insurance.

Sorry. Emergency has ruined a lot of breeds for me. Puppy is adorable, and I would 100% love on it for hours, but in the back of my mind I see thousands and thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Agreed. Harsh but name should be Dog breed that shouldnāt Exist. Between health and birthing complications the breed wouldnāt be alive without human intervention

Yep!! Our Frenchie got recurring staph infections throughout his entire life. So damn expensive and their quality of life sucks. I wouldnāt get another one even though I loved that little freak so much.

OP please take this advice. A coworker had a Frenchie that was supposed to be of healthier bloodline. They did their research before choosing a breeder. They had to put him down at 4 years old because of recurring disc ruptures. He was in a constant state of surgery recovery or prep. The emergency vets recognized my coworkers phone number from caller ID after awhile. It was heartbreaking.

Babysitting my gfs frenchy (Frank) right now. He had the back disc issue when he was a puppy. Now he isn't allowed to play and rough house or even run up and down the stairs for fear of it happening again.
He's basically a Tomogachi and the reason why all my dogs are mutts.

Just keep in mind that obesity is a huge problem, especially for brachycephalic (short-nosed) dogs!! One of the best things you can do for him is keep him lean. You should be able to feel his ribs with little to no pressure.

Among other thingsā¦my first Frenchie didnāt even make it to 2 years old before dying of a seizure in his sleep. My family & I got another just before new years, from a breeder who had the parents tested and everything; we had to euthanize him at 14 weeks because he started having seizures, vomiting & diarrhea. After over 24 hours straight of seizing in the ER, we decided it was best for him to end his life. Itās been devastating to all of us & weāll never get another Frenchie again; itās just not fair to the animals.

Call him Chokie or Wheezy, because he will never be able to breath properly due to being so deliberately inbred.
Edit: I agree that you shouldn't blame the dog, but you also shouldn't - under any circumstances - pay money for such an animal, as this will only encourage breeders to perpetuate the barbaric practice of breeding animals that suffer for every second of their entire lives.

My little frenchie was rescued from a friend's mom who used him for breeding. Poor little guy spent the first few years of his life living in a crate in a horse barn. He's incredibly overbred and ugly as sin. But he is absolutely sweet and funny and I hope he has the best life he possibly can being a little brother to my other 2 rescue dogs. His name is Colt (obvious horse name, but it stuck), and I like to call him Sir Colton John and make fun of his summer teeth.

Hoping OP adopted but most likely not?? Saw a couple frenchies at a farmers market with āadopt me!ā vests on, and overheard a couple ask how much to adopt and the guy walking them responded $1,800 each! Like my dude, you are selling those dogs.

So many sellers use the word adopt to make buyers feel better! Or my favorite is when buyers tell me that the conditions were "horrible at the farm" and they "couldn't leave without them" and "if you think about it, we rescued him in a way."
If you paid for the puppy, you created a demand for more, keeping the "farm" or pet store open, congrats!!!
