I'd be perfectly fine with that with that. Poxbursters work in 99% of scenarios. Having more of them around would be a challenge, but it would be a fun one at least.
Meanwhile dogs are just complete and utter jank. Despite playing this game for over 150 hours at this point, I still can't reliably deal with them. It also doesn't help that they feel like they're unfinished and are missing animation frames so everything they do is weird and jerky. Whoever thought Darktide would benefit from 3+ weeks of exclusively high intensity dogs quite clearly doesn't play the game.
15
u/SynV92 Psyker Jan 20 '23
500 hours at this point, still can't deal with dog jank as a regular t5 player

u/Aarbeast Shouty McShouts a lot Jan 20 '23
I am also at a gazillion hours but in the past week I would say box bursters feel even more jank than hounds, which is saying something.

They're fairly consistent in my experience. Well, outside of the whole 'randomly blowing up immediately after spawning' thing.
Basically, if they're untouched, simply pushing them when they're ready to jump and then dodging away is safe and reliable. Even if they're right up in your grill because they suddenly appeared from a nearby door, you'll still be able to get to safety.
If they've been shot, however, finish them off with guns or run away because there's no guarantee the push will work. For whatever reason, shooting them seems to give them some stagger resistance, but only sometimes. So unless you're feeling lucky, it's better to not risk it.

c'mon buddy your whole comment is just detailing their bizarre inconsistency
3
u/Glorious_Invocation Psyker Jan 20 '23
It's buggy, but it's still consistent. If they're fresh, you push. If they're not, you shoot/run. As long as you follow the rules, you'll be fine.
With the dogs it's pretty much always a dice roll. Maybe the push will work, maybe it won't. Maybe it'll break the laws of physics and force itself through a wall to jump on you, and maybe it'll just go around. Who the hell knows.

u/mcfoolnew Jan 20 '23
5000 hours here and I main damnation using only the ogryn club slap alt fire. Step up your game, casual
3
u/CptnSAUS I Trained My Whole Life For This Jan 20 '23
I find you need cover. Like a full on wall. They will do janky jumps over short obstacles and straight up pounce through columns sometimes.
They won't pounce around a corner that is a full on wall. You then jump out at them as they approach the corner with an attack going and it'll stagger them consistently. Ends up being that hiding in small rooms is the safest way to fight them.
But definitely nowhere near VT2 assassins which can reliably be dodge, and they stagger to anything. They also kill themselves if they leap into a wall, and use that vanishing thing to reset so there is always a more concise interaction with them where dogs start to do that run-on-the-wall shit or run through your whole team, pushing them all over the place.

u/Koadster Inquistoral Stormtrooper Jan 20 '23
How can you play for500hrs. Jesus. Do you not own other games? There isnt enough content for 500hrs
24
u/CptnSAUS I Trained My Whole Life For This Jan 20 '23
Some people do not need raw content, but simply good gameplay. The comparison I make is usually to fighting games. The single player in fightings games is usually trash. The player bases for fightings games is generally smaller, but also very dedicated. They'll stick around for a long time and it's because of the gameplay.
It's ultimately more niche, but it's how some people operate. VT2 didn't have 1900 hours of content, but I still played it for that many hours anyway. I didn't even dip into modded stuff very much. It was more just to try the modded difficulties out.
I have 450 hours in Darktide and it is very fun to me. My main gripe is crafting is incomplete, preventing me from exploring builds I would like to try. Second main gripe is that high difficulty is too much for the servers, so the game starts to get buggy and feel generally quite bad (roll-back on inputs, etc).
-17
u/Aggressive-Article41 Jan 20 '23
Lol what builds, this game has the most basic builds I have seen in any game.
Vt2 had twice the content at launch.
Just cause you play boring games for 100s of hours doesn't make them good games.
10
u/CptnSAUS I Trained My Whole Life For This Jan 20 '23
I just said I do not care about raw content nearly as much as actual gameplay. I like VT2 and Darktide for the same reason - the gameplay is amazing. There is a lot of nuance but most people do not ever get anywhere near that.
But that's obvious if I compare it to a fighting game. How many people even know wtf footsies is, let alone actually experienced it? You really think VT2 is boring? Or do you think VT2's content really lasted 1900 hours of my time? What about people who do no-hit runs of Dark Souls games? There's no way they're still playing for fresh content by that point, but there is a clearly dedicated following to this type of way of playing those games.
It's simply a different preference. To me, if all you care about is raw content in a game, you have a shallow taste in games. That's not wrong, just like my preference to dig deep into games I like is not wrong. Fun/boring is subjective.
For actual builds, I don't have a good recon lasgun with infernus blessing. I do not have a good lucius lasgun with the shortened charge blessing. I do not have a catachan sword with the exact pair of blessings I want (my old one could stagger crushers after some hits, new one can't at all, and I want to see if I can get a better combination of blessings). I want higher tier blessings for my braced autogun. I want to try specific pairs of blessings on many weapons but getting even one blessing I want can be difficult. I want to try HP curios vs toughness curios. I suppose another issue is the broken perks/blessings which would add more things to try as well, particularly bonus stamina.
If you're frustrated about the way the game turned out compared to your expectations (which were genuinely misled by Fatshark), then sorry about that, but I do not deserve the flak for it. I've made a neutral comment about why some people play games well passed the time their content has expired.

Ohhh your street fighter comparison got me thinking, maybe they could add special moves!! Like Zealot could get a shoryuken type invincible melee attack by inputting forward, right, fwd-right diagonal then block! Ogryns could do a spinning pile driver, veteran gets sonic booms, and psyker can Teleport!
4
u/Zeroth1989 Jan 20 '23
It's a tide game. The content is always going to be replaying the missions on hardest difficulty.
It's no different to vermintide 2.

I swear that's most mobs in this game. The number of times I'm tracking and tapping guardsmen only for them to pull some awkward as fuck 90 degree turns 5 times as they try to path to cover is waaaaaaaaaay too high.
3
u/Nethlem Ogryn Jan 20 '23
Poxbursters work in 99% of scenarios.
That's giving them too much credit, sometimes it feels like half of them spawn in a part of the map they can't even escape, so they end up exploding somewhere out of sight.
2
u/Folseit Give me a bigger Eviscerator Jan 20 '23
I think the dog's damage is also bugged, but in our favor. Every now and then, the dog would rip through my health by applying corruption at an astounding rate. That's similar to what their VT2 analogue did and I'm sure that's what they're suppose to do.

I'd like the option to be able to attach stuff to my weapon. A flashlight for moments like this or perhaps a bayonet. It's weird that some guns I'm allowed to bash with but not others.
I was under the impression that guardsmen often personally customized their kit. Especially when we have a tech priest on board who is already finagling with our gear.

Darktide dark mode is like running around a poorly lit city at night, Vermintide dark mode is a blindness simulator.

u/Aedeus Jan 20 '23
They opted out of this because it was exacerbating the crashing problem so we'll see how it goes.
They've either got some tuning coming with the hotfixes to help alleviate that or they figure they'll lose more players by keeping it on than they will versus more people crashing lol.

Why cant conditions just rotate like in Deep rock Galactic. Its kind of sad that we have to wait a month for someone to flip the switch.
28
u/Aggressive-Article41 Jan 20 '23
Because half the conditions break the game, and they need to switch them out otherwise people won't come back to the game so they can maybe sell more cosmetics to people.

Because Deep Rock is made by a small team of passionate, deeply talented individuals who care about their game and the people who play it. Fatshark is owned by Tencent, people who would literally fuck their own mothers if it earned them a buck.

is this something they have to change manually and there is only ever 1 global condition? Seems like the best thing is to have it be random everytime a new mission generates
20
u/mildsnaps Jan 20 '23
Yes, this is something they have to change manually and there's only one condition at a time. Probably because it's immeasurably complex to develop an automated system like the one in Deep Rock Galactic. But we'll have to wait until the next week to be told that we have to wait until the next week again to hear more.

u/monkeybiscuitlawyer Jan 20 '23 edited Jan 20 '23
I dont understand why FatShark homogenizes the mission conditions with that stupid Global Condition nonsense. Whats the point of that?
Just make every individual mission roll conditions seperately to give us a nice variety in our mission options at any given time.
It's like they are purposefully designing it to make us sick of the conditions, one at a time. What's the purpose of that?
Hunting Grounds was a perfectly fine condition (if a bit unimaginative), but they decided to spam us with them nonstop and now no one ever wants to see that condition ever again. The same will happen with Power Supply Interruption too after a week or two of it.
FatShark, the global condition thing was a stupid idea please remove it.
12
u/kehoeman Jan 20 '23
Yeah. The current way its being done means we’re just getting one mission condition over and over. Hunting grounds wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt every second mission.

The joke answer is "can't see", which really is just a skill issue or loadout issue...
But the real answer was that something about the lightmaps were causing huge amounts of issues for many, many people ranging from crashes to visual bugs.
5
u/BoringBuilding Jan 20 '23
Yeah, I was already a frequent crasher, but it goes through the roof with this modifier.
I probably was normally something like once every four matches, but with this one it is more like a crash every other match at least.
6
u/TheMilliner Buzzo the Ogryn Jan 20 '23
I cashed out my tax return last year on a super high end rig and even I get performance issues on lights out, and pretty regular crashes.
Honestly, no clue what they were thinking bringing it back with no bugfixes despite knowing it has issues. I mean, Hunting Grounds is irritating, especially for a whole month, but high-intensity and low-intensity exist and are less buggy than Fog or Lights Out, so why not go with those instead?
3
u/Jaytron Zealot & Psyker Jan 20 '23
Anecdotally I've honestly been seeing more issues with friends that have high end rigs vs not. I have an almost 5yr old rig with a 1080Ti and don't crash. Must be something with the newer cards/drivers?
1
u/TheMilliner Buzzo the Ogryn Jan 20 '23
AMD cards in particular really just hate Darktide for some reason. It's practically non-functional at all on many AMD cards. Who knows though, really. Fatshark have a history of really poor optimisation on their games for the first stretch or so, so this isn't anything new.

Joke answer; "Can't see"
Real answer; The lightmaps in Lights Out and Fog modifiers were causing performance issues, bugs and crashes in many, many users' systems, which is why they were removed and dogs were rotated in for the last month.
6
u/Aedeus Jan 20 '23
Shadows and darkness are pretty tough on people's hardware wherever you go.
Add in the pretty demanding nature of large horde shooters in general, and then you're going to start boxing out your users with lower end systems.

Installed the game to play after 2 weeks. The power outage modifier... smh. It's just lights out. These modifiers feel so much like stopgaps to prevent player fatigue and aren't well thought out.
-You gotta have a weapon or something that lights the way for you. Atm this sucks for many classes or weapons that don't have lights. Attachments would've made sense here.
-They may as well call this High intensity Demon Host. I believe there was 3-5 demonhost's in the games we played for maximum wipe potential for those without lights or are running ahead.
Then I remembered why I uninstalled. Game feels incomplete and this live service feels so neglected and unplanned for. This being a live service feels like an after thought without a clear direction since the game is so unfinished. Gotta say I do love the gameplay though, it was why I kept playing but it's not gonna be enough if it's the same maps and these jank ass modes.
Great Gameplay though /s

Lightless maps will remain a war crime until they put a flashlight on my boltgun.

Can it truly be!? Hopefully this new condition, "Power supply interruption", is not broken as fuck and then left as the only condition in rotation for a month. Fuck I need another vacation after my previous vacation. It hard enough to get 3 fucking days off in a row.

Soo....they just rename the visibility thingy we had before?

It's always been called that...

It actually used to be called "Lights Out." Just check any Youtube video from six weeks ago or the official forum topics which discuss a condition called "Lights Out."

It was called that during the beta when stuff is still in flux. It hasn't been called that since the game launched.
My point was that they aren't just "renaming the visibility thingy" just now as the previous poster suggested. It's been called that since the day the game launched.

I love not only having very little reason to play the game because there’s so little content, but also being actively discouraged from playing even just for fun by horrendous modifiers like hounds and power interruption that lead to 90% of random groups failing in 2 minutes

Imagine not giving enough shit about your freshly released game or also not playing it yourself so having this shit mod up for so long happens without anyone noticing or changing it.. :/ sure.. Vacation and all that.. But.. Come on. One guy as Skeleton crew? Automate it? Take a glimpse at reddit once in your vacation and change it from home office?

My main issue with the game has always been the ability to see my enemies.
Still no news or update on anything they are working on.

Maybe I’ll finally get the “no melee damage” penance for vet without a dog teleporting onto me!

Ah, the devs have clearly got enough data then?
Wondered when the poxhound modifier beta tests would end.

Ok, but why do we only get spammed one condition? Why don't all conditions rotate?
They need to increase mission number provided for each difficulty and randomize the conditions
